New rifle woes - the waiting game

On August 3, I put in my order for my first brand-new rifle. Up til now I've been using my father's hand-me-downs, and used guns purchased from buddies. I figure I'm 35 years old, I'd like to have a rifle that I know the complete history of, round for round.

I'm a lefty and I wanted a heavy-barreled .308 with a good stock. I didn't really want to build a custom rifle, more of something good to shoot directly out of the box, hopefully under $800. After much research I settled on the Savage LE 10-FLCP-K.

I went over to GT, put my order in, and was told I may have to wait 4-8 weeks for delivery. I was hoping to have it in time for my bear hunt in September. That didn't happen. I checked in with them at the 8-week mark and they told me Savage pushed out my order 3-4 more weeks. Which brings us to today.

I called to check and my sales guy tells me "you've been really patient about all this. I'm going to get on the phone with Savage and I won't give up until I get you an answer." He calls me about an hour ago and tells me the distributor for the Savage Accustock is backed up, and that my left-handed stock is last on their list for production. Expect 60-90 more days!

He was extremely apologetic and was worried about this reflecting poorly on his service. He welcomed me to cancel my order if I wanted to - said he'd completely understand.

So, here's the deal. This is the rifle I want. Obviously, I won't have it in time for rifle season, and I'm not happy about that, but I have my Rem 30-06 that does just fine. Do I continue to wait? How long is reasonable? Anyone have any similar experiences?

    Frustrating...

Stick it out, get what you want.

I would always wait for what you want...and I am a man of little patience! But it does pay off when you have patience!

        X2

You will have it many years, so a few more months won't make much difference. Just use the old 06 till you get it, and you'll have some extra time to save for the scope.

If it's the rifle you want you have no choice but to wait. At least your not in a position that you need it for this deer season with having access to the 30-06.
I don't know if you have already purchased accessories for the new one but if not it gives you more time to save up for them and maybe upgrade to a better scope than you were planning on.

Oh yeah, I've already got my scope, my rings, my mounts. A buddy of mine big-time in to reloading match-type rounds, and we've been making plans for the dies and bullets. I've been ready to get this thing going for a while. Now it's all just collecting dust.

What I've been reading on the Savage forums is they may be altering (hopefully means improving) the stock, which is why it's backordered. So, it may work out ok in the long run. Just not a great buying experience on my first "big spend."

              kc - I'm sending a PM now.

I can't stand that, I would take my money to a company that can deliver when they tell me they will.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease and those that stay quiet get nothing. I'd write the customer service rep, president, ceo, and whomever else you can get an address for and rip them a new arse! Be professional about it and dont fly off the handle and you might be surprised what they might "throw" in when you get your gun.

Three online dealers are out of stock on that product and if Budsgunshop.com cannot get that rifle then nobody can.

Just curious as to why you want such a long barrel on a .308? It's not needed.

                        I couldn't find it either.

I agree go to the top. You are not trying to throw the salesman under the bus this is just your dream gun.

Call for the Pres and when you cannot get through to him, ask his Assistant(sec) if she has a minute and tell her your story. Just the facts quickly and comcise Tell her you are sticking with Savage but you just want a straight answer. Then say you would like to send a letter to the President.

if it is something you just want and don't need then wait. if you get along with the gunshop that you went to then i would wait.
