    tracking a deer..prayers

As I postedin johnnys monday roll call, I'm in the middle of tracking a spike I shot right after posting to the safety tip thread..
Think the rage opened mid-flight because it looked like the arrow went left..blood is bright red and pools where he stops.. He kicked and hobble ran about 15 yards and stopped..then gradually walked off.. I though I might have missed completly at 35 yards..
Waited 20 minutes and went and looked where he stopped..pool of blood.. Can't find my arrow.
Waited 2 hours and started a slow track..followed for about 300yards..backed out because he's coming up on the back half of another lane..gonna get the four wheeler and head over there and re-pick up the track... Sick to my stomach about the shot though..

Good luck, sounds like u have a pretty good chance of finding him.

Off topic, but have you started seeing any signs of the rut on your place?

Good luck on recovering the deer. I know I always get sick if I think there is a possibility I will not be able to recover an animal.

sad to say..and physically sick to my stomach about it..but I wasn't able to recover the spike..
tracked him for approximately 500 yards through brush/thicket and wide open hard woods..
he left puddles of blood whereever he stopped but other than that it was looking for drops and smears..
the south wind was strong blowing the dried up leaves on the ground everywhich way making it even more difficult to find the next spot..
I've replayed the shot a billion times..and each time i see the arrow corkscrew left..
Before i went and tracked i shot at the target at same yardage and was shooting a straight tight group dead to the pin, so my only explanation was the Rage opened..
I know it was secured on the o-ring while the bow was on the hanger because I'm **** about that happening..and checked it before i hung the bow.
Like I said, I couldn't find the arrow, so theory dictates , it's still in him..which makes my stomach turn even more - that hes out there with an arrow apparently 3/4's back toward the rear ham..if not in the ham..
                    what a sick feeling...
my friend that occaisionally lets us walk his dog in our woods , because tracking dogs are illegal in Polk, wasn't available.. and the blood trail is so messed up now because of the high winds..not sure if it would do any good at this point anyway...

think I'm going back to fixed blades.. i know this is going to cause me to second guess myself even more now.....

Sorry that you didn't find it. It want go to waste, I'm sure the yotes or some other critters will apperciate the meal. It just part of the sport that stinks some times.

i feel your pain man. Just lost one myself a couple of days ago. i was groping fletching ruining groups before i went out and just pulled the shot. Hit him right in the shoulder. Literally wanted to vomit after the realization of not finding him hit me.
