It is a state law on all state highways. It was made a state law 4 years ago. Left lane is for passing only. In other states I've been to they've said it is to allow unhindered passing for emergency vehicles.

Years ago, I was in Utah and pulled onto the state highway. As I was accelerating in the right lane, a state trooper came over the hill and passed me (how was that in the first post) passed me like I was tied to a tree. A few miles up the road he was pulled off to the side and someone had been exceeding the speed, lost control and flipped end over end. All I could think about was, geeze, if I had been in the left lane, that could be me or the trooper.

The key word to all this is "PASSING". The majority of people I have seen in the left lane ain't passin..... they're cruisin.

These are the people I am talking about. If I am running the speed limit in the right lane and move to the left to pass a group of RVS or BLUE HAIRS that are driving under the max limit and this guy blows up behind me runnin 80 in a 70 or 75 in a 65 he is going to have to wait until I can safely move over after making my legal pass.
I have never stated that I do or advocate that people intentionaly block traffic in the left lane. That would be just plain stupid. I do think that people that intentionaly violate laws have little regard for the saftey and well being of those around them.
I worked emergency services for over thirty five years and can say from experience that I worked far more fatality MVA's caused by excessive speeding then caused by those driving the speed limit. At one time I did inforce speeding laws with local LEO but mainly cleaned up the mess speeders left behind.

As long as I'm going faster than the lane to my right, I feel I have a right to be there. If I'm in the far left lane going 75, and you come up faster behind me, I will move over as long as I can do so without slowing down. But if I'm passing the folks that are in the lane to my right, you're just going to have to wait.

Jesus Christo, y'all still arguing about this. If you don't want to be a curtious driver, then don't. I will get around you and will quickly move over for anyone coming up behind me. It's just the way things are done.

Some of you may want to check out www.thp.gov, don't know but they may be accepting applications.

I follow the speed limit too. The only thing that gets me sometimes is the rapid speed limit changes on some of the highways when you approach a small town. I set the cruise control at the speed limit. Going to the lease, many stretches of road are 70 mph. That is plenty fast.

I agree with this... Many valid points in this..... Move over if you are not passing someone... simply put..

i love west of Kerrville when the speed limit hits 80.... my truck gets the same mpg at 80 as it does at 70 (for some odd reason) so I dont mind going that fast....

As youngking read through the vrs posts he realized he had made a horrible mistake. Could he leave the thread without being seen? Slowly walking back, hoping the floor doesn't creak and give him away, he moved to the door. Turning the handle he slowly opened the door and quietly stepped outside. Thinking he hadn't been seen he moved to a different thread.
