    Need a little help?

Recently we bought our daughter a used vehicle and it only came with one set of keys. We contacted the dealership where we purchased the car and they said so sad, too bad. We would have to contact the Dodge dealership and have some made. $200.00 for a set of keys? Is this the normal price? Is there any other way to get a set made?

Must be one of those with a chip in it.

Try a local Lock Smith. I got a key for my 2008 Yukon with a chip for about $100. Not cheap but less than the dealership.

You may be able to get one online with the vin number. Try a bing search with as much info as possible.

ACE Hardware has the ability to make keys and even make the ones with the chip. I believe it is 75.00. The lowes by my house has that machine now.

Do some checking. There are other options where you can get a generic key with the chip in it. They usually get you on the higher price because they are charging you for the key programming. Do some checking and you will find one you can deal with. Just as a note. You can have a plain key cut for it and it will open the doors but just won't start the car. If that is an option that may work for you. The dealer can give you a brake code that will bypass the chip security system where the non chip key will work for a certain number of times. I knew people that would have the plain key cut as a spare in case they locked their keys in the car. That way they could get in and it didn't cost them so much for a back up key.

Look up "Michael's Keys" in DFW...they are the locksmith company we use at work...they will be able to tell you your options based off the vehicle make/model!
