I did some shooting with a SWAT team of a medium sized police department in south Louisiana (New Iberia). The Team Leader, Ernie Fournet, was former Special Forces and knew this stuff top to bottom. Nothing but respect for the man. He would position himself slightly off center downrange between his team members and their targets and observe their good/bad shooting habits. He helped a lot of decent shooters turn into great shooters that way.
