Last Friday I finally had time to haul in a bunch of scrap metal (ie rusted gates, barbed wire, feeders, water troughs, etc.). I was not expecting a lot of money for it, I just wanted to get rid of the junk.
What an interesting place. While I was waiting in line for the scales, a white scruffy blonde headed guy pulls up from a 45 degree angle and I thought he was going to hit me. He shouts out - "Hey!" I cautiously rolled my window down. "Are those water troughs rusted out or what?" Yes, I said, thinking, there is no way I'm going to unload them, either. He drove away.
A few seconds later, a nice looking, cleanly dressed black man approached. He said, "I'll give you $10 for that air conditioner." It was an old, broken window A/C unit. I looked back at it and said, "Ok." I got out and helped him get it. After he pulled it out he said, "I'll get you that $10..." and something in my heart said, "Nah, don't worry about it. You keep it. I was just looking to get rid of it." He asked, "What? No, I'll give you $10 bucks." No, I insisted. You keep it. As I walked back to the truck, he asked, did you load this by yourself.
Remembering my sister's help, I said, "no." He walked up to the trailer and said, you see all of this aluminum pipe? I'll pull it out for you and take it over there. I'll bring you the money and ticket for it." Before I realized what he asked, he started pulling out all of the small sections of aluminum pipe. I asked, "you wouldn't cheat me, now would you?" He said rather defensively, "No. I wouldn't do that. I'm just trying to help you get more money." I relented and helped him pull out the aluminum. As he dragged it off, I went to the scales then into the yard.
While I was waiting for the crane operator to pull the scrap, the young man walked all the way back to me. He had the ticket and said, "It was 60 pounds and you got $30 for it." He handed it to me. I looked at the ticket. And my heart said, "You keep it. God is telling me to give this to you. Plus, I like you. You are a hard worker and you look for opportunities." He was stunned. "Are you sure?" I said, "yeah, I'm sure."
When I left, I got a lot more money than I thought I'd get for my scrap, so that was a good thing.
My husband commented, "you seem like you are giving too much." I told him I can't stop what God tells me to do in my heart. No, we don't have a lot of money and at times I feel like we are scraping to get by. The money was just money - easy come, easy go. Plus, I was more Blessed by giving that man $40 than I was by keeping it.
That's all I have to say about that.
