I'm still looking for a spot for me and my boy. Care to share some of those other 5 leads?

I lease from a Lawyer and he reccommended this ins. so not sure about if my Home owners ins. will cover but it would be worth checking on. The Alabama Forest Owners' Association, inc. # is 205 987-8811 Fax 205 987-9824. I believe I was wrong on the Membership fee I pretty sure it was $43 and then so much per acre. I checked around and it is considerably lower in price compared to others here in TX.

Sector420 I Can't remember the other land owners willing to lease because I did this last year and didn't keep their numbers. I do remember one's name and his # shouldn't be that hard to find because he is running for Justice of the Piece. Email me and I'll tell you his name and location.

TommyH, you can visit the County Appraisal Distric website in your area and do a property search by name or address (road name is usually ok). the site will tell you the size of property and the Owners name/ Address.
              Hope it helps!

Well you wouldnt really know. Once the phone calls come in you would have to say no if its more then u can afford. You would prob have decent calls if u said, ill pay x pet acre up too x dollars. What ever your budget is. That way the guys with a ton of land wont call unless they have tracts in that range.

About 15-20 years ago, I was an adjuster for State Farm. One of our insureds, who is a well-known hunting magazine and TV show guy was hunting near Albany on his lease. Against the landowner's rules, they built a campfire on a very windy morning to cook breakfast. A few thousand acres of his lease and neighboring properties burned up. I wrote big checks to the landowners for fences, barns, cattle feed, hay and wheat pasture lease (since the winter's grazing was gone), etc....

I'm sure the guy lost that lease, but his homeowner's insurance took care of him.

Personally, I carry a homeowner's policy with big liability limits as well as $2 million additional personal liability umbrella policy coverage (PLUP). It costs about $150/year for that, and it covers pretty much everything - not just hunting lease stuff.

A lot of the landowners I know are old and don't even use computers or cell phones so it works better I believe.

Shane, why would it not cover hunting lease stuff? Under your personal property coverage B, if it is your property it does not matter where in the world it is located, correct?
