Im a thinking about going to a taxidermy school. I figure if I start now then I will be real good when I retire from police work. If I decide to do this does anybody have any suggestions on Taxidermy Schools to go to? Or any other suggestions?

I went to Central Texas School of Taxidermy Kelly dosent own it anymore so I dont know if its as good as it was but I enjoyed the school. I think your better off working for a taxidermist thats allready in business and learning it to see if you even like it or if you have the artistic ability to be able to do the paint schedules etc. or even if you like it before you spend the money. I had been around it myu whole life and had done it some before and went to the school just because I wanted to go but ended up working for a VERY large Taxidermist after I got out and really learned alot.

I've seen work done by two guys that went to the Central Texas school, and honestly, if they're applying everything they learned, they got screwed! It could be that they didn't have the natural talent to begin with, I don't know.
I'd try to find a taxidermist in your area that will let you hang out at his shop. This time of year is a good time to ask if they need help. You need to be prepared to start at the bottom ... caping heads, skinning animals, sweeping floors, etc. There's a lot to learn before you ever get to put a skin on a manakin, a LOT. Keep in mind that even if you think you know how to do something, your mentor may want it done another way; keep an open mind, do it his way and if you don't like it, do it your way when you're not on his watch.
