Anyone ever set up a home recording studio?

I am looking for ideas. I posted a few years back aboout setting on up, but then 2 kids in less than 3 years, traveling all over the planet hunting and guiding, etc. put everything on hold.

I have been writing a LOT of music lately and want to get set up to do some quality recording at home. Anyone have experience setting something like this up?

I am trying to get ideas on a decent set up for under a grand or so.
I have a desktop that I am having a new hard drive put in that will be designated for editing, etc. but need ideas for editing software, interfaces, etc.

    Thanks!

I am wanting to get set up sooner than later. Picked up a new Martin and a Tele last week that I am wanting to crank some stuff out with.

Sounds like your on the right track. I will say decent mics are going to be the key to alot of things. When I recorded with him we did not run one instrument direct. Everything was mic'd. PM me your email I will email you final tracks of our EP.
