What to do in Rockport, TX

I'm planning a bachelor party for a buddy for next weekend. We're leaving Thursday morning to head to Rockport and we have a condo rented until Sunday morning. We have a guide booked for Friday to do a little wading in the bays. The rest of the weekend is pretty much open. Any good golf courses nearby that are not too expensive? I've seen that there is a casino cruise out of Port Aransas that we may check out Saturday night, but I'm just looking for any other options. Thanks!!

This is just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth!

The Texas Treasure (casino) is where old cruise ships go to die!
Unless you and your buddies are die hard gamblers, I'd pass on the cruise.

There's a little resturant on the road that runs parallel to the bay that's called "The Boiling Pot". If you like crawfish, and that sort of stuff, it's a must visit for one of your evening meals.

Other than fishing, a few nice resturants, and a handfull of junk (souvenier) shops, the best part about Rockport is "nothing" ... that's MY favorite activity when I go down there!

If you guys can get a DD for Saturday night you should drive to Port A and get "Shark bitten" at Sharkey's as we call it...Man you will have an extremely interesting time with a bachelor party; I know since I've been there multiple times with bachelor parties!!!

Ok, Boiling Pot for lunch or dinner at least once. The road you're talking about, is that Hwy. 35? I'm sure I can find it on the net if I need to...

Taxi, have you been on the casino cruise or just heard not so good things about it? I've been on cruises and to casinos, but I've never been on a casino cruise, so I'm just wondering. I don't think any of us are die hard gamblers, but I enjoy gambling and I think some of the others do as well...

i am in rockport at least 15 times a year.
imo, here is the best way to enjoy rockport:
~boiling pot is ok (c- at best) and very expensive when you have a large group.
~go to capt. bennys instead. byob and great food. capt. benny catches most of the food he serves. very fresh.
~like taxi said, stay away from the gambling ship.
~sharkeys is very good for a cold one, but so is alice fayes on the bay in rockport. jerseys out in lamar is a good place as well.
~usually live music at the bars in rockport on the weekends. if riptide is playing, go, it will be woth it.
by the way, who are yall fishing with?

HH, the boiling pot is on Fulton Beach road, and it's on the side away from the water.

I've been on the gambling ship about 4 times ... my bride likes it, and I'm a pushover! Unless you really like to gamble, it's a waste of time ... for the casual gambler, start a poker game or throw some dice at the condo.

The boiling pot used to be real good. The last 2 times I was there I wasn't impressed. For beer and good burgers go to Pop's over in Lamar.

I lived in Rockport for a year. Blow off sharkeys and go to Alice Faye's. Get a little local flavor. Cold beer and great burgers. Check out North Shore Golf Club in Portland. Great course only 20 minutes away. It probably costs $40. Windy but good. Yall should smoke the fish too. Good luck in the greatest town in Texas and bring me back a redfish filet.

I like the suggestions so far. We are fishing with Captain Ryan Waggoner from Butch's Guide Service. I've been to Rockport once before and fished with this guy and he really did us right. We didn't get limits, but close. The other guys (6 other boats) didn't catch more than 5 specks all day.

Our group this time is a little smaller, only 5. Keep the suggestions coming!!!

Everything above is good info. I've been on the Casino Boat quite a bit don't think its all that bad. I have also heard that Alice Fayes is a great place to go for a cold one. I know they opened up a Sports Bar called The Pickled Pelican in Rockport but not sure how good it is. I had an install there when they were opening and it looked like a nice place. Its right on 35 N going towards the airport. Sharkys should be on your list or you can go downtown Corpus.

The do nothing part of Rockport is my favorite part!

I am there at least once a month on,,business, yea that's it.

I have eaten just about everywhere in town and my personal favorite is actually Los Comales on the west end of town. They have the best seafood in town, and the agave bar is handy too.

As for the gambling ship. We used to go to Lousiana a lot gambling and I will say that it is WAY better than any casino we have been to in La. But it is certainly not Vegas.

Out on Hwy 35 in Aransas Pass, there is a bar on the side of the road. You know the kind of place. For pure entertainment, take your boy there and tell him this is where he's having his bachelor party. There will be no less than 20 guys and no more than 2 dancers (with a combined weight of about 420 and about 8 kids between them). The owner is an 80 year-old woman who sits behind the bar and glares at you.

It is worth the price of admission.... or so I'm told.

Then go to Poor Boy's Country Club and remind yourself to never to to a strip club in Rockport again.

I live in Rockport and here's some thoughts on food, etc.

                              1. Los Comales is a great place for Mexican food. It's a little noisy and can get crowded, but the food is good.

                              2. I personally think that the Boiling Pot is too high for what you get. I'd rather go to Charlotte Plummers, Captain Benny's or to the Paradise Grill on Key Allegro. There's also a place called Off the Hook South of town on old 35 that has a great view of the water and is right next door to the Parks and Wildlife free boat ramp so you can check out the boat you might purchase next. J.J.s is good for burgers.

                              3. Been married for 38 years (we came to Rockport on our honeymoon and decided to retire down here a couple of years ago. Since I won't let my wife go to the strip clubs I can't give you a report, but I think the 400 lb dancers sounds about right.

                              4. We're having a bunch of LSBA folks down to do some fishing and to have a fish fry Saturday night on the beach, but I think you'll want a little more action than that, but stop by if you're in the area.

                              5. Good luck to the soon to no longer be a bachelor.
