    Texas Hunter Products.......

Can anybody give me a reason not to buy a couple of Texas Hunter 55 gallon 12V Feeders? Any cons?.....I've haven't seen much talk here on them but the few I ahve seen are positive.

I've looked into building a couple myself with good motor/timers, good galv lids/funnels, solar panels etc and for what I can buy these for at $279 + solar panels, I don't come out much ahead. I don't want junk timers or lids so that did add some overhead cost to the homemade ones....I also don't have a scrap pile I can pull out of to fabricate other parts.

Here's what I am looking at......

    THP 12 V....

They aren't bad feeders at all. BUT you should be able to find 12V monarch feeders with a solar panel and varmint cage for that much though. I would prefer the monarchs to the THPs, but you can't go wrong with either. Monarch calls theirs "the works"

I used to sell both brands at an ag supply store here in Waco.

can you expand on this as to why?

Seems like their timer is a bit "outdated".....but I could be wrong

Probably more of my preference comes from dealing with them personally via purchasing and getting set up as a dealer for them.

But, the one thing that I don't like about the THPs is how the leg brackets are bolted on instead of welded on. This might not be that big of a deal to you though.

Their timer has caused me no problems, and have never missed a beat for me. The THP timers are very nice too and probably get the edge over the monarch feeders, but not by much.

I can't vouch for the complete feeders but I have been very pleased with the TH timers. We currently have four of them with solar panels and they have been trouble free for three plus years of use.

The feeder that I'm using is great! When mine is on a fresh battery it'll really sling some corn. Mine's about 3 or 4 years old now and I think it's starting to go out, but when it's working, it works great.

I have 2 12v texas hunter product feeders. They work great, I have been pleased with them and would receomend them.

Both ran great all season last year. Never failed once, and I am still running on the same battery (knock on wood).

They were too tall to stand on my 4 wheeler to fill them. I ended up cutting about 12" off the legs to make them a little bit shorter.

Mine slings corn 20 yards in every direction. The corn will hit my pop up blind. This has never really caused a problem, but I have had deer right in front of the blind before eating corn. Maybe a little too close. A 6 volt system might not sling it so far.

to answer you question- not really. After hearing it a few times a day it as lost all meaning.

I havent ever used one but a guy at our old lease in east Texas loved his. He never had any probs with.

Jason, I have to second the Monarch over the TH products. They actually have 3 different clocks to choose from and I'm sure one will fit your needs. Also, there's something to be said about being able to go into their showroom and "touch and feel" the products.

And if you ever have a problem with any of their products you can rest assured that Rusty will take care of you.

Am I to assume their feeders do not include legs and have to be purchased as an extra???
