Off Topic Question - Anyone using a PBX based phone system at work?

I am looking into using either ringcentral.com or UniVoIP.com and wanted to check if anyone here is using them or a similar company for their office phone systems.

Anyone have pro/cons of PBX based over traditional land line?

    Thanks

Hopefully you can get in contact with Charles on here, he's in the telecom biz and knows the phone options.

When you say PBX, that generally means a legacy (traditional) TDM based phone system. It sounds like you may be asking about an IP based phone system, is that correct?
If so, there are a number of advantages of IP over TDM. First and foremost, most phone system manufactures have ceased development of their TDM based offerings. The tide has changed and IP based systems are the wave of the future. This is driven by the new capabilities of IP over TDM. The CapX cost is comparable between the two, but Opx and features gives the IP system the nod. Some day IP will be the only offering available.

Is IP right for your business now? That depends on if there are specific capabilities that your company could take advantage of to realize the benefits.

How large is your company, how many handsets?

I also install phone systems. We don't do to many of them, but I'm hoping to change all that before long. Ive been trying to get some formally training on the ones I install, but just haven't had the time too.

We use the Vertical "Comdial" phone systems. The main one we sell is the SBX IP 320 for small businesses, up to I think 32 users or so, out of a main cabinet without networking systems together. For the most part the systems work great. And are capable of either IP phones or just your normal digital phones. The only issue we have been fighting with is the speaker phones on them, matter of fact I've got to go work on one in the morning, and going to be talking directly with a manager of the Tech Support of the company. So hopefully we get all the kinks worked out.

But if Charles leaves you with questions be sure to ask up.
