    Hunting Rule

How many guys out there have hunting rules on there lease? I have read some say it ruins hunting, also how many sports have rules, and there penalties for them.

We had a few rules--but we had unlimited guest privileges. However, if your guest kills a trophy buck, it counts as your trophy (we could take 1 trophy buck -- 140" or greater B&C), a mature 8-pt, and as many spikes and does as we had tags. Unlimited hogs, varmints, doves, and quail. Only problem that came up was one guy who brought his wife each and every time he came to the ranch. That got old because it wasn't long until she thought she was a member and had a say in votes on rules changes, etc. She also was very possessive about "her" blind. One day, I had my son down for a hunt, and we went to "her" blind since there were 3-4 spikes showing regularly. Well, she went to another blind and shot a 2.5 y.o. 10-pt that we had all agreed we'd let walk for a few more years. She never would admit it to me or the lease manager, but it got back to me through the wife of another member that she did it for spite.

IMO, rules are necessary because every group has at least one **** sphincter.

when you spend thousands of dollars on a lease, and try to get multiple people on the same page?

Our lease is small and 3/4 family but we still have rules. Simple stuff like no walking or still hunting, 4 wheeler riding to a minimum etc. Even with our small group we have had some that wouldnt abide by the rules and are no longer on the lease...I think they are absolutely necessary

We have rules and Alan better abide by them!

Without them, there would be no way to run a deer lease.

I'd like to know who's on a lease without rules??

should have tied her up and threw her on an ant pile for that one.

I don’t think rules are bad, when you get two or more people together you need rules.. But the rules should be agreed upon before joining the group (lease) and if you agree to the rules then you should follow them. There must be penalties for breaking those rules and the penalties should also be agreed upon before joining the group.. Changing the rules in mid stream can be quite troublesome and result in at best hard feelings and possibly bodily injury to the involved parties..

Rules are great!!! All leases need to have them to ensure that the 120" 8pt trophy buck that your Grandfather was proud to take becomes the monster 200" 14pt that your son will eventually shoot.

                I learned this yesterday

Yep, we have a set of very specific rules, have a new members orientation meeting before a new member is allowed out on the ranch unescorted, and we have a penalty system for violations... We've been leasing the same piece of property since 1985, and it's over 10,000 acres. With that much property and the number of people we have to contend with, we MUST have rules... they've worked pretty well too... And for the most part, everyone seems to enjoy themselves...

Rules are like laws! Gotta have them to keep the peace!

I was actually on a lease, where at least three members let a good buck walk, to preserve him for the guy that had him on the game cam. The guy was nuts about that buck, and did wanna have him so bad, so we let him walk. He never got it, and two of us, had more live coverage of the buck then he had game cam coverage. All i'm trying to say is: act as mature as you possibly can, and remember: IT'S JUST FOR FUN.
But rules have to be in place.

Gotta have some set of rules to keep the peace. I've been on some leases where the rules where simple and some that where just ridiculous. As long as everyone is on the same page there shouldn't be any problems with having a few rules.

We have rules on number of deer you can take and how your guests affect your numbers. The only rule that blew my mind was no trapping hogs after gun season starts. Not sure why but it's sure not due to a shortage of hogs.
