How many 50 lb. sacks of feed fit in the bed of an F150?

I'm thinking about taking a road trip to Arkansas (I'm in Ohio) and picking up as many sacks of Rice Bran as I can. I'd be renting a current model Ford F150 or Chevy Silverado, as my 2003 Tacoma wouldn't hold nearly as much as I want. Anyone have an idea of about how many full 50 lb. feed sacks can fit in the back of one of those trucks? I'm trying to decide if the cost of fuel and truck rental is worth it. Rice Bran by the bag is pretty expensive up here in Ohio. If I could get enough on one trip to Arkansas to make it worth my while, I might do it.

    Thanks.

More than the its weight allowance. Probably around 25 - 30 bags.

Exactly. 20 bags weigh a 1/2 ton and a F150 is a half ton truck. I put 20 bags in my F150 and the bed was only half full.

Maybe you could offer guided hunts for truck loads of rice bran.

I haven't seen any Flournoy scouting reports and threads leading up to this season. How's it going up there, Joshua?

I have a single cab chevy silverado and u can easily fit 60 bags. Your truck limit will not allow that many but its possible space wise. I fit 50 with some other gear for a short trip

I've had 50 in my halfton Dodge and Ford...but I wouldn't recommend it for any long distances unless you have helper springs.

Rent a truck and borrow a buddy's trailer. You can pull a couple tons on the trailer.

Or rent a small trailer. I have a 5x8 trailer with a 2200# limit. Something like that would give you capacity to carry 65-70 bags total.

If you look on the driver's side door jam you will see a sticker that has information about tire size, pressure, etc. On that sticker it will say, "The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed XX lbs." Divide that number by 50 lbs, and you have the total number of bags you can "legally" carry.

I would just fill up your Tacoma and rent or borrow a small trailer to haul the rest.

You could probably buy a used trailer for the cost of renting a truck.

I've put 40 bags of protein, 7 bags of corn, and 4 bales of alfalfa in the bed of my F-150 before. You could tell it was loaded, but it handled it and my gas mileage didn't drop alot. However, if it was me I'd get a trailer and just use your Tacoma and haul it behind you. You can rent an enclosed U-Haul for pretty cheap and carry more than you could fit in the bed of a truck.

My father in law buys in in Arkansas in 1000lb bulk bags. I'd put 2 in the back of a 1/2 ton. I think we hauled 6 bags of corn in CHicken's 1/2 ton one time.
