    Camera

Time for a new camera for the backpack. Endless options, size, price.........I know. I just want one that will hold up to being bounced around and take some nice pics. Any to stay away from, or recommend

I HIGHLY recommend the Olympus Stylus Tough 8000
This thing cost around $230 and can be dropped from 6', use it 33' under water and carry it in my pack while running all over the mountain. Takes a 12MP picture that looks great. I used it to take a picture of a trout underwater and was shocked at the quality.
The downside is you have to charge the battery via the camera via a USB cable connected to the wall charger or a computer. Pain in the **** when in the mountains, unless you buy a small solar/USB charger.

Thanks, What kind of battery life before it needs to be charged?

Pentax also has their Optio W series I have an OPTIO W20, and it also is trouble free, water proof and has a removeable/rechargeable li-Ion battery. This thing has been everywhere with me. I carry it on a lanyard around my neck and stick it in my shirt pocket when wade fishing the surf... took thousands of pics with it, and never a problem... uses an SD card. It has quite a few "features" most of which I never use, as I bought for a point and shoot camera. It is a cut above that though. It is in the 200 dollar range too. When looking at the Pentax cameras be sure you look at the OPTIO W series and not just OPTIO... the W is the waterproof version...

The battery life on the Olympus is not bad. I took about 150+ pictures while on my last hunt. I carried the camera in my pocket the whole time, turning it on, taking a quick photo and turning it off. I think this technique uses more battery than turning it on, and taking several photos.
I think with today's technology, there are very few, if any, bad "Tough series" cameras. My only recommendation is to get the tough series (Pentax of Olympus). It may cost more than your every day use camera, but I seriously doubt you will need to replace it anytime soon.
