    Question about New Ranger

I bought a 2011 Polaris Ranger and I have a question. When I ride it on gravel or dirt roads which is 99% of the time, the dust pulls back into the cab for some reason. It had a full windshield when I bought it so I took it off and put the 1/4 windshield on it but it is still getting real dusty in the cab. I have ordered a top for it hoping that with the top, it will create a draft through the cab and eliminate the dust. Has anyone else had this problem. And if so did you find a cure? Thanks for any help.

We just had this conversation over the weekend, as one of my leasemates recently bought one. The opinion of the other Ranger owner was that there are only two solutions to preventing your slipstream from sucking dust in - no windshield at all or a fully enclosed cab. The former will cause you to freeze in cold weather, the latter is expensive. I'm sure some of the experienced Ranger owners around here can confirm whether or not that theory is true.

Yep, If you have a windshield you must have a back panel of some kind. Also put some foam pvc pipe insulation behind the seat were the seat belts are attached. This will keep the dust from coming in there.

take the windshield off, whats a 1/4 gonna do for ya anyway, and yes get a top. I havent understood the need for windhsileds, just get a save phace they are alot cheaper. Windshields are no bueno, been there done that and wont ever have another windshield, I would break it anyway

No windshield at all here. It dont get that cold around here to justify me buying one. I ride alot more when its hot than when its cold anyway.

A buddy has a full front and a roll down rear, on summer night hunts we cant keep it un-fogged even with layers of rain-x. I spend all night with my head hangin out the side

We have a both a regular cab Ranger and a Ranger Crew. Both have the problem with dust circulating back into the cab. We use windshields in the winter and remove them during warmer weather. The dust is a problem in both scenarios. It's annoying to say the least. Only way to avoid the dust is to slow down!
If I was to replace the Ranger, I'd go with a Japanese mini-truck having the fully enclosed cab.

Without my 1/2 windshield I can't talk to the passenger with all the wind noise in my face.
For summer I have a 1/2 windshield with a ~ 4" tall x ~8" wide slot cut out of the lower center portion. This allows air to flow into the cab area providing air movement, but keeps the wind out of my face.

In the winter I put on a 1/2 windshield that doesn't have the slot cut in it since the slot freezes my son out when we ride 3 up.

Sealing off the seat area is also essential to reducing the dust blowback from under the engine bay.

We ride around in our ranger talking all the time. You must be doing 40mph if you cant hear them. Plus, once we are in the hunting areas (Inside gate) we dont talk anyway. If you ahve a windshield, you will backdraft dust in. Rangers are supposed to get dirty.

                    ^^^yup...

We've had single cab & crews at the lease for years. They've tried EVERY combination with windshield, 1/2 windshield & back windshield. With, without... Any and all configurations.

Either go with nothing or a full cab enclosure.

Do the half windsheilds have the lip on them that is bent forward a little bit?

I have a half windsheild with the lip on my Teryx and have never had an issue with dust coming in the back at any speed.

It's an off road vehicle with a completely open cab. It's gonna get dusty absolutely zero ways around it outside of a fully enclosed cab.

I have a Ranger Crew with a top and the backseat has a nice layer of dust on it. The front isn't too bad.

I am not talking about a little dust. I mean within a 100 yards you are covered in dirt and cant hardly see. This dust is extreme. My friend has a new teryx that does not have this problem. I am seriously thinking of biting the bullet and trading this one already.

Odd...I think it maybe a difference in the roads your on vs. him...Every Ranger/Teryx/Mule i have ever been in blows back or buffles dust depending on the road conditions. But not to that extreme.
