How many states?

My girls were spending the day with my mom last Thursday. Of course it was raining & they started to get bored. My mom let them dump out a jar of change & separate the coins. Wanting to make the fun a little more educational they started reading the names of the states on the quarters. My mom asked my eight year old if she knew how many states there are? Briley replied "Yes Nanny there are fifty states." My mom then asked if she knew how many states there were when she was a little girl? With no pause what so ever Briley replied "Thirteen!"

I guess you should quit while you are ahead!
