    New World Record Elk

havent seen this before... it was sent to me today - here is the 'story'.

This Elk was killed with a bow in the Selway-Bitterroot

Wilderness. He green scored 575" and should net out at about 530" non

typical. He has an unbelievable outside spread of 79". This is the

biggest bull ever taken with any weapon.

NOW.. the rest of the story... it acutally came off a game ranch - high fenced in Canada. The elk was 10 yrs old and weighed 595#. They originally touted it as a free range world record, but the strain of elk, background, story and the like didnt match up. You can check it out on snopes!

Either way.. this is one big *** bull.

This has been going around for several weeks - even been on here a couple of times I believe. There was some discussion that it might have been killed on a high fenced place but I don't know what the final verdict was. Heckuva bull, that's for sure!

Farm raised & killed. too bad.. so much for the good stories

        the info http://www.snopes.com/photos/hunting/bigelk.asp

Claim: Photograph shows a large bull elk killed in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness.

        Status: Real photo; inaccurate description.

Origins: The above-displayed photograph shows a very large bull elk killed in September 2006, reportedly by a hunter using a bow in Selway-Bitterroot, a wilderness area encompassing over 1.3 million acres in Idaho and Montana.

Although this bull would have been considerably larger than any other native, free-ranging elk ever documented as having been taken in the Selway-Bitterroot region, the animal was apparently raised and killed on a game farm in Quebec, Canada, not in Selway-Bitterroot.

I got this one 3 weeks ago and would not post it here because I thought it was a odd picture.....no bow, no arrow, just downright odd.

Most of us do not mind hunting high fenced ranches, how big was the ranch? That is one huge animal!!!!!

There's mention of it on the B&C website with same story of it being a pen raised elk.

I wish I could remember where I saw it, but there is a picture of this elk while it is still alive standing next to his blue plastic food bowl. That was pretty much all I needed to see. It just takes $$$$$$!

This photo is circulating the internet at World's Record pace. The text accompanying the photo states that it was taken in the Selway Wilderness in Idaho with a bow and scores somewhere between 530-575.
B&C is reserving judgment on this bull. If this bull were, in fact, taken as a natural, free-ranging, wild, native elk from the Selway region of Idaho, it would be approximately 130-150 inches bigger than any elk ever recorded from that region.

UPDATE: This bull was raised in a high-fenced environment in Quebec, and therefore ineligible to be entered into B&C's records program.

I really like the picture next to the feed bowl the best.
