Advice on .45 mods- New owner

I knew where to come for advice on this topic..not really looking to get involved with another forum! Basically, thanks to my dad's desire to switch me from Glock's to Colt's, I have ended up with a Colt Combat Commander.

I dont know where to start....I know I want a few things new grips, sights, bigger spurred grip safety(?), hammer, adjustable trigger.

What do you gus recommend in terms of improving performance, shootability, etc? I really can't just leave it stock for some reason! Also, what modifications can I do without going to a gunsmith? What should I have a gunsmith do? Reading everything I have on the web today..I'm just plain confused!

    Thanks in advance.

Well, you can keep the frame and buy/hire/install/replace every other part and end up with about $3,000.00 in the gun and if you're like me....you will have a $3,000.00 pistol that shoots the same size group as when you started.

A good trigger is a great start (probably need a good gunsmith to do that work).
I am sort of a belt/suspenders sort of guy so I really like the laser sight/night sight combo.
A good stainless steel barrel and fitted bushing should be in the mix somewhere.
    A bobbed hammer.
and on and on and on....

There is really no end....but before you do any of that stuff, go shoot about 5,000 rounds just like it is and then you will have a feel for what difference the changes make.

Luck- Just checked out your operator...wow the black/polished look is awesome! Is the underside rail stock on those? Now, about the gentleman that did the work on yours...Will he take on some work for me? Specifically, wants some work done on my DE .44 and this Colt.

That's a Springfield Operator w/ a full dusk cover. They don't make those any more. Springfield and others make them with a short light rail.

You'll have to talk to "Chrisgunguy". He works at STI. They specialize in 1911's.
