    Crossbow

I know it's not technically bowhunting, but still archery... Can anyone recommend some good crossbow bolts and broadheads??? Also what is normal crossbow range? Got one for Christmas last year and I think I may try it out this upcoming weekend.d

Generally the type of crossbow and the poundage you have determines the correct bolt to use.. it should be in your paperwork..

Just like with any bow maximum range is determined by your proficiency not by an arbitrary number. Sight the bow in and practice, limit yourself to the distance that YOU can deliver a killing shot on your prey 100% of the time in a hunting situation… do not like so many of the average hunters assume that you can always shoot from a perfect platform or stance..

I use 22" bolts and 100grain broad heads. Do not use Rage 3 blade expandables. Crossbows shoot too fast for them. They will open in flight and spin out of control like a bad paper air plane. I found this out last year.

          How fast is your crossbow?
I have a friend shooting a crossbow at 330 fps,(through my shop chrono, so I know for sure), and he's on his third season using the 3 blade Rage, and this has not happened to him yet.

I shoot 125 grain slick tricks, but slick trick has a broadhead specific for crossbows. Check the paperwork on your crossbow and it will tell you which bolts to use........Make sure and use string wax and rail lube everytime you shoot or you will wear your string out in a matter of weeks.

I know the Reign broadhead is designed for faster bow speeds and accuracy.

I sell and recommend spitfires for my crossbow customers and have got nothing but happy customers from them. The reaper after them. I like the carbon express bolts and they come with both flat and half moon nocks for which ever your bow uses. You need to know if you need 22 or 22", or some of those little recurve crossbows will use even shorter

I have a Barnett Quad 400. It's specs are as follows.

                  VELOCITY 345FPS
                  DRAW WEIGHT 150LBS
                  ENERGY 122FT-LBS
                  POWER STROKE 15.5IN

I have 22" arrows that came with it. I plan on sighting it in this weekend. Any suggestions for grains of broadheads for this amount of pull? Also does anyone have any suggestions for beginner range? I know that it's whatever I am comfortable with, but I need to sight it in this weekend and I need something to go off of.

                    Cros bow kill

Here's my $.02. I have a Ten Point, 150# cross bow and use 21 1/4" bolts (includes the broadhead). I don't know how fast my cross bow shoots but I have been using Rage three-blade broadheads for the second season and they are deadly ... 15 yards, 22 yards, 30 yards. I have killed deer (big bucks included) and they have not gone more than 50 or 60 yards (which ou know they will cover in only seconds. I am going to start using the two blade, 2 inch version of the Rage ... the results ought to be even more devastating. Good luck.

It shoots at 350fps with a 225 draw weight. It is the Excalibur Exomax.

I would really like to shoot the Rage expandable. Maybe I got a bad batch. I had a hard time getting them to stay shut when I got them.

Rocky, maybe I need to make a trip up there and buy a pack from you and we can test them.

I still have the one that opened up on me. I could bring it for you to look at.

speaking of rage broadheads... they always seem to be nothing but devastating when they complete their mission... but that only seems to happen 50% of the time
