Now that's a Two-Handed, Heaping Helping of BONE right there.
Awesome Awesome Buck.
The very thing deer hunters dreams are made out of!!!!!!!!!
Nice job guys, and congrats to you Mr. Barrett.
I think it is obvious that this deer wouldn't exsist in a natural free range situation. Does that take away from the fact that someone put alot of time and effort to grow this deer, no. It takes alot of time and selective breeding to produce such an animal not to mention money so he deserves credit.
As for me, I don't really get off on breeder deer because it is not natural and that is my take on it. I would rather manage the heard where I hunt with a feeding program, once a year medicate their feed to rid them of parasites and cull the heard accordingly. This to me is good deer management for natural free range low fence deer.
edit: Also... on the genetics issue... I understand the questions and concerns people have when they see a deer this big, but let me reaffirm that our deer herd is 100% Native Texas and Native to our ranch, with no TTT IN, DMP or "hands on" manipulation of any kind. (we have TTT'd deer OUT)
The Genetics were always there... look at this deer from 1992 and his shed from 1991 low fence... non fed...
Dad killed him our first year on the ranch... Look Familiar? We killed this deer half a mile away.
So since when where South Texas Bucks excluded from being breeder bucks?
You don't like my opinion that is fine I don't care. Is the ranch it came off of High Fenced or Low fenced? I bet it was high fenced so how about you quit while you can bud.
Like I said, the guys deserves credit for spending the time and money to grow this deer. Sell it to someone who is buying it because I am not, awesome deer yes natural low fenced deer no.

we would like your opinion if it made any sense!
Heck all deer are breeder deer unless they dont have any jewels High, low or no fence, West, East, South or North Texas!

Good grief. I'm not even going to respond to that. Please stop before you get this thread whacked.
There have been 200"+ bucks killed in South Texas since the early 1900s, maybe earlier. The old timers just didn't have the means or care to publicize, yet care about the size of antlers as much as the meat.
It should be no surprise that the genetics are there. And those good genetics are only maximized by the good stewardship of hunters & landowners.
Some assume that bucks as giant as Mr. Barrett's are breeder bucks partly because some magazines (you know what mags) revolve around the deer breeding business. So people start assuming that if a buck scores 200+, much less 300+, it must be from a pen.
Anyway, what a great deer...from a natural setting...and from a large tract (regardless of the height of fence).
Congratulations to the hunter/landowner/manager for reaping the fruits of his time, labor and investment in his land resource.

The height of the fence has nothing to do with it. For example I spotted a deer this weekend on our place that was no more than 2.5 yrs. old with blue tags in his ears. Two years ago we had another one 3.5 yr. old appear with yellow tags for about a week only and not to be found again. Now, these two deer had to have either jumped the fence or somebody dropped them out of a helicopter because we did not introduce them.
No hater here just telling it like I see it. I am very familiar with "Golden Triangle" Genetics and the deer that come from there. All I am saying is that when you high fence a property you remove a major part of the natural therefore you can manipulate and control factors that do not happen in nature.
So it is no secret that I am against high fenced ranches, is that against the law. Nature has a way of taking care of it's own and culling the herd and we shouldn't alter it that is the way I see it.
