To hunt a stand or not?

Ok, need help from the brain trust. Got a stand that has a big 9 and big 8 coming consistently. Every night between 7-7:40 and about 50% of the mornings during shooting light. Here's the background on this stand: it typically has a couple of shooter bucks and they disappear about a week before bow season. These 2 bigguns have stuck together so far but I don't expect them to be regulars much longer. My issue is this. My stand is set for a south wind. A north wind, which is forecasted does not blow my scent straight to the feeder but in the general direction where I do expect the deer to come from. Not directly to them but in the general direction. These deer live in a suburban area that is used to normal human activity and farm work etc... so human scent is not totally unusual but... I don't want to spook them off while at the same time knowing the window of opportunity I have with this stands past history begs the question, would you hunt the stand?

I would only hunt that stand if you had the right wind. Those big deer got that way for a reason

I'm going to have to say wait on the right wind or move the stand.....

Sounds like you have hunted the stand in previous years. If it consistently doesnt work for a Norht wind, I would wait on it. If the deer don't seem to be mindfull of the wind then give it a shot. The big guys will get alot smarter once they break their "summer pattern" in a couple weeks.

Try to get as scent free as possible and hunt it. If possible hand corn an area that will keep them from getting directly downwind but still give you a shot. Like you said, in the past they typically stop coming in. You may be running out of time.

This early in the game there is NO WAY I'd give away my position, wait on the wind and stay out of the area in general. Checking cameras and such only educates them to your pattern.

Search through the Tuthdoc threads and see what he had to say about the wind.

Start here and read through several of his posts. http://discussions.texasbowhunter.co...t=hunting+wind
There, on the left side, was Lucky 2 and his doe. They were standing there about 70 yards. Downwind for you play the wind guys. I wasn't worried. I smelled like an estrus doe from my buck bomb and corn from my hog bomb. earth spray added and layers of silver and Primos silver spray and I was confident he wouldn't wind me.
Not worrying about the wind worked out pretty good for him.

Set up in the brush, with a leafy suit , out of the stand and see what kind of results you're getting.
