    Close range bow shot

I had to start a new thread after reading so much on here about how far out you shoot a deer.

The single most exciting thing to me about bow hunting is how close I can get to the deer and get a shot off. Drawing on a deer at 30 yards is alot different than drawing on one at 10 yards. But there is something to having an animal walk less than 10 yards away from you. I can't explain it, but I get to shaking just thinking about it.

Anyhow, I would much rather kill a deer closer than farther away.

Closest shot 2 yards. Several in the 4-10 range. Getting drawn is the hardest part, but ground blinds have really helped.

you and me both - my wife shot her first deer with her bow last year at 8 yards. The closest I have ever SHOT a deer at is about 4 yards (doe), but I have had several deer within 2-3 feet from me while sitting on a 5gallon bucket off of a trail outside of a wheatfield. THAT is fun!I have had them walk under the tree I was sitting in, right next to the blind I was sitting in, but it is so much more interesting when your not inside something or elevated and they are RIGHT THERE! Close range is THE reason that I started bowhunting 15 yrs ago.

There is nothing more exciting than getting up close and personal in a ground blind!!

yup, getting up close and personal OUT of a groundblind is I promise you! but if your planning on shooting then groundblind is the ONLY way to go due to concealment factors with your movement. When you are not in one and they are 3ft from you, you can't move a single muscle in your body or they pick up on it quick!

My 1st kill was shooting almost straight down. Missed the first one, deer just stood there and shot again. Worst sound in the world is hitting backbone, then have to climb down and make a kill shot. I'll never do that again. But my furthest shot to date is 17 yards. That's about 6 deer total.

Same here - first time out bowhunting had a doe walk by me so close I could touch her. Hooked me for life. I hunt ground blinds and tripods too but nothing like being on the gound with a little brush for cover with an animal less than 10 yds away. You know they're close when you believe they'll see you breathing or blinking.

Shot a hog from 5yds on the ground last yr.

My last two have been less than 15 feet, and that was just so I would not be shooting straight down.

Had a small spike walk right up against my homemade ground blind several years ago. Wind was in my favor and he was eating alfalfa , he raised his head up slowly turned my way and was eye to eye with me at about 2 feet. I have never had a deer react like that one when he realized I was there . Jumped straight in the air and ran full speed across the field.

My last buck was at 20 feet. It was cool. Earlier I had a doe within arms length.

I got a 1.5 yard shot on a deer in Lakeway 4 years ago. It was straight down under my tree. It was way cool.

The furthest I have ever shot is 30 yards and the closest shot I have ever taken was at 16 yards. I want to wait this year and see how close I can get one

Closest shot was on a hog, about 3 feet from my ground blind, next closest was about a minute later 5 feet from the blind and killed two with that shot
