I dined at Cooper's BBQ in Llano on Friday night. I saw camo everywhere, which I can only assume is the very clothing these gentlemen are going to wear when hunting the next day. Do rifle hunters not care at all about scent control?

I'm on a lease of 8 hunters. 3 bow and 5 rifle. First, the rifle hunters leave the ones we bow hunters claimed alone which is pretty cool. I just wish we could get our nieghbors to do that. But no, our rifle hunters go out smoking, drinking and eating in there box in the air with no concern of scent control. They shoot thier deer at 1-200 yards away and could care less what they smell like. It's the bow hunters that care what our rifle hunters smell like and try to hunt upwind of them.

I got the vibe that rifle hunters are being put down in this thread. Why put them down? We are all hunters, and should unite together against the tree huggers. I sometimes bowhunt and other times rifle hunt. Yes, when you are 15 yards from the deer you should care about scent, but 200 maybe not. It is just a different type of hunting. I would like to see a bowhunter take a deer at 300 plus with a 7mg or 300. Not any easier than bowhunting a deer at 20 yards. Like I said, I both rifle hunt and bow hunt, and both can be difficult in the right circumstances.

Hey Captain,
To each their own. If you enjoy it, do it. What makes you think a bow hunter can't shoot a rifle? I was 9 out of 10 from the 500 yard line. Have you ever qualified to shoot from a 500 yard line? The civilian ranges make you qualify from the 300 yard line by putting 3 rounds of 3 in 2" circles. The Marine Corps requires you to qualify at a 500 yard line once a year. Just because I care to take my animals by bow does not mean I can't shoot. It also does not mean anyone who takes their animals by rifle are wrong. The differences between rifle and bow hunters always brings tension on this site. I guess mainly because this is Texas "Bow"hunter . com
