    Decision Time

New to bowhunting (this will be first season). I've been reading different forums about what constitutes "ready to hunt". I started shooting last December. Took the winter off, started back in March. Shot until surgery in May set me back about 10 weeks and then it was hotter'n all blazes by then, so picked it back up in late August. Been shooting 15-30 arrows 3 or so times a week since then (about all I can work in between job and family). Been shooting standing and sitting and the last week in "full regalia".

On a lot of forums I hear comments 'bout "super tight" groups needed before going out the first time. I currently shoot 3-arrow groups - 10 yds: 1" (had to move out, kept tearing up vanes) - 15 yds - 2", 20 yds - 3-4", 25 yds - 4.5 to 5". Past 25, I'm not comfortable shooting "live" for now so will limit shots to 20 yards and under. I feel 100% good about letting it fly from 20 yds and under and I'm raring to be out Saturday morning!

What were your groups like when you decided you were ready?

Your technical shooting skills are fine--but throw in the adrenalin rush that comes when the buckskin is in front of you--and who knows? Best advice I can give you is: 1) bend at the waist and don't lower your bow arm 2) pick a spot-a small spot and 3) broadheads can't be too sharp.
