    Fingers vs. Release

I bought/traded for a new bow and am very excited to get going. I originally thought I might shoot fingers but after doing some web searches, it seems that 9 out of 10 ex-finger shooters admit that they prefer using a release now. They say you get a more consistent release and hold, etc. Anybody have an opinion on this? Should I go straight to a release or should I give fingers a run?

Used to love to shoot fingers. Felt more in tune with the bow. Don't have to look down to hook release on string when a deer approaches. Have to admit I shoot more consistent with a release.

Bow will tune differently with fingers as compared to a release so ....

RT is spot on ...... FWIW , try fingers initially to see if you like it

i would go with a release since your groups will be more more accurate

The thing is, I have to get the draw length adjusted and it's going to be different for each... the string is new & already has a D-loop on it, so I may just roll w/a release. That's what I shot before and I did well.

If I shot a compound w/out sights and a release, could I compete in most trad tournaments?

Probably not as traditional. more the compound unaided class for tournaments.

Don't know about the tournaments but I shoot a Mathews Drenalin LD instinctively with fingers. I like to feel the string and arrow in my fingers.

Give both a try and see what works for you

I've shot fingers release for 30 years. I tried a mech release but didn't like it. Like has been said I like the feel of the string in my fingers. I just never felt I had control of the bow when I tried a mechanical release. Old habits are hard to break!

I started with fingers, but am definitely more consistent with the release.

I started with a release but one year I decided to practice and hunt shooting fingers. Never got a shot on an animal and after season just on a whim I got my release out and cut my group size in half. Haven't tried fingers since. But I have seen finger shooters who could match most release shooter. If I could do that I would shoot fingers.

This.........and you will have a hard time finding this class unless its a huge tournament.

As far as accuracy a release is so much more consistant (to most) that it in no contest. If you like it thats great, but Its like building a long range rifle and shooting discount ammo, with a tasco scope (not that there is anyhting wrong with tasco).

You cant loose your fingers during a hunt.....and I mean misplace
But when its cold you might not feel them and release the same.

I'm not sure if you mean fingers or a release is like the long range rifle w/discount ammo.... clarify?
