    What size generator...

The deer lease I may get does not have electricty, so I will need a generator. What size will I need to run my travel trailer and everything in it? Also, what is the best (brand)?

I have a 24 foot Sportsmen with AC, microwave, lights, plugs, etc. I bought a 3500 peak watt generator and have used it once so far. I had no problems running everything and the generator is quiet. I shopped around several places in town and on the Internet before I chose to go with a Power Max from a dealer on eBay. I got mine for $299 shipped to my door.

I have been looking to, the trailer Guys says at least 3500 watts if you run the A/C, 4000 Watts is the best for the hot months, I have not bought one yet, but the ones with the Honda motors in them, sure are quite. Update us on what you get.

I don't have the info anymore. Get on eBay and do a search for Power Max and you should be able to find them.

I'm using a 5500 watt generator to run everything in my trailer. I got it at Sam's Club for $450. It has a Briggs & Stratton engine and it is louder than a Honda but after two years of use we haven't noticed that it bothers the deer any.

I would get the largest portable Generator I could afford. Honda generators are real nice. If you want something more permanent look at getting an RV generator. Onan and Generac are tough to beat. We have a Generac on the horse trailer and it is sure nice. Push botton start from the inside, fuel gage, and super quite. It is expensive, about $3500.00 but it has more than paid for itself.

Volts x Amps = Watts. So look at your FLA (Full Load Amps) on your A.C. and appliances and add them up. Also remember that your startup amps are up tp 4 times the FLA in hot weather. Adding everything up you will suffice with a generater that will put up 3 times your FLA....Most 3500 watt gens are sufficient for campers w/a.c.

I have a Champion 3500 and I would love to get a 5000 instead. I have had it less than 1 year and it has been great and is super quiet. But it is very close to maxing out when I run just the a/c and not many lights in my 5th wheel.
Side note, I had a 7500 and it was great and I got that at Tractor Supply but some meth-heads thought they needed it. I replaced that with a 13k watt and that's just too big to moce around.

BTW- the microwave is what will just really bog it down, atleast on mine the 3500 will not run it.

Bentlimbs has the answer. Since the voltage is the same (110 V), you can compare just amps (current) consumed by the a/c and produced by the generator. It should be on the metal tag on both, or in the specifications of the generators.

I would get a generator with Honda engine, you will want the quiet operation. Northern equipment seels a North Star {or something like that} that is powered by Honda and the 5500 Watt model looks really nice. Good luck. Woody

The A/C plug on your travel trailer gives you the answer you're looking for. Your travel trailer wiring system is sized to run everything through your power cord.

                            30A x 120V = 3600W
                            40A x 120V = 4800W
                            50A x 120V = 6000W

One of my friends had a VERY lightly used Honda in the 3500-5000 watt range he mentioned selling. Shoot me a PM if you want me to get the details from him. I know he wants over $2000 for it, though.
