Been there, (from there), done that. Hunted Aransas Wildlife Refuge first year. Didn't know about DEER LEASES till I got to TX. Way of life around here.
I still get up to the MITTEN to hunt once in a while. I dang sure fish the HEX HATCH near Grayling every year in late June on the AuSable for TROPHY BROWNS .
Good luck and welcome to the green screen.

There are always options for the buyer in Tejas. I am also from Michigan (Rochester Hills) and have lived in Texas since 1996. I think there is a site called Deer Texas (deertexas.com?) that has a list.... of course a full season lease could be hit or miss on this short of notice, but there are a ton of day lease operations that would be happy to take your money, I'll bet. A lot of the guys seem to like KJO... there are a bunch of reports on here about it.

The public land is not great for the average guy but if you work, you can find game to kill. Just comb this site for info and PM anyone if you need help. One thing I noticed for sure and appreciate every single day: you will NOT find a nicer group of people to help get you going than the guys on TBH! Texas is my home and I am glad to share it w/these guys!

Welcome to Texas! You moved to the best large city in the state...in the center of excellent hunting and near great fishing.
