    Brain trust help! Mechanics please!

I have a 95 Nissan Pickup, 4 cylinder standard. I was at a stop sign waiting to cross a street when the truck started sputtering and died. I had to put my foot under the clutch pedal and pull it back up. I got it into a parking lot and played with it a bit to see if I could narrow the problem down a bit. If it is in neutral I can push the pedal in and it springs back out with no problems. But within a few seconds after I put it in gear the clutch pressure goes down and it sputters and dies. Then I have to pull the clutch pedal back out. So what part of the clutch system has gone out? Thanks for the help.

      Im confused.

Not sure why it is dying, if you think you have a clutch problem.

I would first check to see where you are losing hydraulic fluid at. I would first look at the slave cylinder on the drivers side of the trans. Squeeze the dust cover to see if fluid comes out. If that aint it, I would check the lines for a pin hole. If thats good, its time for a new (clutch) master cylinder.

Clutch problem still shouldnt affect the way it is running.

      Need more info.

The Hydraulic Clutch activation has gone out.
Have the Clutch master and Slave cylinder replaced, since the hydraulics leak, they engage the clutch as they bleed down, even though you stay on the pedal, and that causes the engine to die. It is kind of like you would release the clutch slowly and not accelerate, while standing on the brake.
Clutch master and Slave cylinder , should take care of the problem.

It's most likely a internal leak, no loss of fluid. Master or slave cylinder internally bypassing, causes the same effect.

You explained what it is doing to a "T" My girlfriend is using her AAA card to get it towed a mile back to my apartment. I will work on replacing them tomorrow. I had a similar problem with it when I first got it three ago and 55000 miles ago and replaced both those parts again. Should they have gone out already?

The seals on one of the piston is shot. My dodge did this a few years ago.
