Don't the arhcers that shoot indoor 3D indoor tournaments shoot shots at targets on the move? Seems I remember seeing some on TV. I believe he knew what he was doing....you guys need to calm down a bit. Maybe he practiced shots like this who knows.

Still too many variables to making a clean kill with a running shot. howard Hill and Fred Bear used to do it in the day, but there is much more at stake now with the Green Folks. Appearance/persception is reality.

By the way Noel feather killed a bunch of free range BIG deer long before he fell into pen hunting to keep up his reputation...........

I think he could have hit the top edge of the liver very easily. If you look at the video in slo-mo, screen by screen, you can see a very dark spray of blood on the exit of the arrow. IMO, not an unethical shot if you practice the way Fitzgerald did. I had a chance to meet him and Bob Foulkrod at a shoot/show when I was younger, both good men and stewards of the bow-hunting tv shows. I even had a Golden Eagle signed by Foulkrod that was stolen out of the back of my car at SFA (sum-biatches!)

+1. It looked like a flesh wound to me. Maybe I need to re-examine my deer anatomy chart because I wasn't aware the lungs and liver were located ABOVE the spine.

i agree that it wasn't a good shot. Actually i thought it was a terrible shot and i personally wouldnt have taken it, but Ole Dan is a great shot, and he shoots instictive! It was just one of those shots you wish you could go back and try again. happens to us all.

I think I read chuck Adams said Dan Fitzgerald was the best shot he'd ever seen. He's probably made that same shot more then a dozen times. Don't mean I would take it but people up north do things a little different then we do around here.

Fitzgerals slogan should be "This ain't Hollywood". I like his videos. He's hunting "old shcool". No feeders (which help in positioning a deer for the so called "Perfect shot").

I don't think he was "marketing" to the so called "trophy hunters" when he made this video. He hunts for meat and any deer w/a bow is a Trophy to him, and venison on the table.

More power to him. He took the shot. He got the deer. Who are we to judge.

Maybe he had 100's of tc pics of that buck and everyone on the $5k lease had agreed that this deer needed to be taken out of the herd/gene pool??? Maybe this buck was eating too much high $$$ protien and not getting big enough to ever make BC/PY ???

I know archery has come a long way as far as equipment (and political ethics). But videos are a big reason for archery advancement. And I take my hat off to Fitzgerald for being one of those who made videos "back in the day".

For someone like me who doesn't post much, I sit back and see this all the time here. It is amazing how easy it is for some people to trash a shot or hunting celebrity. As if those trashing have never taken a bad shot. Oh well...

I agree it is a shot I wouldn't take, but I am not the same caliber of shooter that Fitzgerald is.
