    Price for mowing a field

I work at Aspen Heights just outside of College Station on HWY 2154. We have 13 acres of commercial property that needs to be mowed.

It was cut around a year ago and overall is in pretty good shape. Has about a 1/4 acre pond to work around and thats about it.

I am wondering what the "going rate" would be for this sort of job?

I know the prices in the city are gonna be higher for mowing/landscaping companies. I would rather find an old hand with a tractor who has nothing better to do!

I was thinking somewhere around $12-25 per acre. Someone quoted me $500 which I think is absurd!

    fill me in GS

$12 - $25 might cover you on larger tracts but for 15 acres you are paying as much for move in and move out as you are mowing.

I wouldn't mow it for $500.00. it would cost close to $100.00 in Deiesel for truck and tractor then take 10 or 12 hours to do.

What are you mowing it with? a compact tractor?

The biggest cost would be moving the tractor and shreadder

Prices for that size property with no obstructions are running ~$35/acre around here. A person that knows what their doing, using the proper equipment would get that done in less than 3 hours.

Thanks guys, I realize transport is the most expensive part. Hence I am looking for someone very local. There is some land out here so I was hoping a high school kid could borrow dads tractor or something like that! I have a craiglist add up but only 2 hits

I talked to some guys that said 30/acre seems fairly reasonable if transportation is not too far.

I will keep looking, someone will do it for the right price.

You might try and find someone wanting to bale it for hay. If it is clean and decent grass it could be a win win for both of you. Better to give the hay for free than to pay someone to shred it.

I wouldn't suggest mowing 13 acres with a lawn mower. Our hay guy mows 30 acres in less time than that.

                          Beat me to it.
Around my area, the going rate for hay bailing is $18-20/acre to cut and $18-20 per bale. With a minimum charge of 1 bale/acre, it comes to $36-40 an acre.
If it's decent grass, you should have no problem finding someone to take the hay in trade for the cutting and baling.

Normally takes me about 8 hours to mow my yard, 14ac. I added a hour on each end for loading and unloading my tractor. I guess I have too many trees to mow around.

You must mow in the same gear as my brother, and a chainsaw can be your friend.
