NEED HELP -- internet EMAIL gurus...

I am trying to respond to a ad on craigslist... and I keep getting the email returned-- failed.
I switched to WILDBLUE satelite and I began having this problem. I tried to turn off the firewall and send. no dice.

Anyone know how to change the settings mentioned?????

    thanx,

    David

Well basically, the receiving mail server is checking reverse DNS entries against your sending mail host. the reverse DNS check is failing, and the receiving mail server is configured to block failed reverse DNS mail hosts.

Check out the link sent in the response:
    http://bind8nt.meiway.com/itsaDNSmess.cfm

If this is a mail server that you administer, then you need to resolve the issues with DNS. If it is your ISP mail server, then you should contact them and tell them to resolve the issues.

      This is the error code:
      554 <unknown[216.126.204.44]>: Client host rejected: rDNS/DNS validation
failed. Please setup matching DNS and rDNS records:

I looked at the link & it was over my head as far as PC stuff went.

I am using wildblue(satelite) as my ISP. Iam using outlook as my email server.

I am not administering it that I know of... I chatted with the tech folks at wildblue... thewy did not have a clue.
Is there a setting in the bowls of my machine that I can change?

Outlook is an email client. So, wildblue is providing your email server.

          That is not good.

Not really. DNS is basically a network of systems hosted all around the world that provides name space to address space resolution (and vice versa). So given a name (i.e. www.texasbowhunter.com), DNS returns a logical IP address (i.e. 66.132.236.238). Reverse DNS works exactly the opposite. Based upon the error code in your return email, the mail server on the other end is blocking messages from hosts that fail reverse DNS lookups. This is a common tactic used to prevent SPAM/UCE.

huntindad: If you know how to find your public IP address, please PM me the information. Also, please include the mail server settings (POP3 and SMTP servers) from your Outlook Client. I may be able to help you troubleshoot a bit more with this information.

After doing a bit of research, it looks like the address of the mail server you are trying to send mail through is owned by SISNA (which seems to be related to WildBlue). If you call tech support and tell them to setup a reverse DNS entry for their mail server IP (216.126.204.44), it should resolve your issue.

If they do not know how to do that, then I would highly recommend that you seek another ISP. This is a basic administrative task for an ISP. IMHO if they can't figure out how to, or will not do it for you they don't deserve your hard earned money.

Something else that you can try is setting your outbound SMTP server setting in you outlook client settings to:
                smtp01.wildblue.net or
                smtp02.wildblue.net

This may or may not work for you, but it is a fairly simple change to make.

To solve the problem in the short term, do you want somebody to send an email to that craigslist blind address and say you want to speak with them?

                    Bill,

thanx for the offer. I went ahead and set up a GMAIL account. I tried to go thru the chat line at wildblue with no luck. they were rude. I sat on hold forever. Finally gotahold of a techie. He tried & tried to figure it out. They didn't know what could be done for my situation.

Thorson, I sent them what you sent me... that scared them. I hope it ddin't have any NPI info on it.

I will just use a gmail account for craigslist and grin-n-bear it.

Come on DSL...cable..carrier pigeon ...anything other than WILDBLUE.

                    thanx for your help guys.
