I've caught 35+ in the 10 years I've lived in this house. The most successful tactic I've used to keep them from spraying is to get a large piece of heavy black plastic, large enough to completely cover the trap and then some. Hold it up high in front of you, just touching the ground, and walk very slowly up to the trap and lay it carefully over the trap. Give the animal a few minutes to settle down, then carefully pickup the trap and carry it off. I set it in the back of the truck on top of another piece of plastic, and put 2X4s on the cover sheet to keep it from blowing off, drive out of the neighborhood to the other side of the creek, and turn it loose. Works about 50% of the time, but my rule is: "If it sprays in the trap, it dies" so my 20 ga goes with me and I let it get 10 yds away and hammer it. Possums are released across the creek, cats--well, let's just say they go away.

Here's what you do: When you see said skunk in trap, go get a small bowl of warm milk. Walk up to the cage and begin petting the critter to get it calmed down, then slide the milk in the cage. Once you have gained the little feller's trust, gently (and this is important) gather him/her up in your arms while stroking it's fur and carry off to a far off place and release it thusly.
Oh, and be sure to get it on video.
On edit, this will enable you to surely live up to your screen name.

Releasing any wild furbearing animal or squirrels which have been trapped or caught on your property then relocated onto city, county, state or federal lands is prohibited. The only land you can legally release those species on are private property where you have gained permission from the landowner to release the caught species on.
Releasing 'down the road, at the creek, at the park, along the highway' are all against the law simply because taking a nuisance animal from one location and releasing it onto another location is only bringing trouble to that area where it is prohibited within the city, county, state or federal lands.
Either euthanize or find a private landowner.
