There is a distinct sound made by the arrow in flight when one or more of the blades open I have killed animals with them several times. I was not a hater until I shot a very nice 8pt buck from 27 yards in the low rear paunch. The arrow took a dive to the left and I heard the zfzfzfzfzfzf sound
EXACTLY THIS! Except the part about the nice 8pt. My first two shots with the Rage opened at the shot. I checked the stupid O ring both times, blades were closed and locked. I popped a nice doe square in the hindquarter and missed another by a good 15" in front of the brisket. Shots were 25 and 20 yds.
Broadhead sounded like a bottle rocket going down range.
After those two shots, my last thought after coming to full draw was "wonder where the he## this one is going to end up". I got rid of the rest and won't go back.
I use them they have worked good for me. There are some issues you need to look for before shooting them. The only bad experience that I had with them was my fault and it was bad shot placement.
I have used them the last two seasons and have had complete pass throughs on both hogs and deer. No problems so far. The buck I shot did not take 10 steps before falling over. I have noticed that it is harder to keep the blades in place now even after replacing the 0-rings. I will see what happens in a couple of weeks.
Excellent choice Sinkey. Dont let the nay sayers bother you. The problem Rage had with their heads was mainly when they started using a roll pin to hold the blades in and they only used that method for a short period of time. This is when most people had the complete pass through but both blades gone problem. I think they are an excellent choice for anyone shooting a bow setup with descent KE. I dont mind paying $40 a pack for a head that I have complete confidence in. Spend all year feeding and taking care of the deer I hunt so $13.33 is cheap to put them on the ground quick.
I have killed 2 doe and 1 pig with the Rage 2 blade. 2 of the animals dropped in their tracks and neither was hit in the spine. One doe ran 50 yards and the woods looked like they were painted.
I have had good luck with them, and will continue to use them until I have a problem.
Don't remember ever shooting a animal that I didn't get a complete pass thru on and actually suprised at how far the arrow did travel after the pass thru.
To each his own and be it Rage or some other brand I do believe that you do need to have total confidence in your equipment. I'm thankfull that I have yet to have any of the experiences that others have had, but I do check and re-check my equipment and replace the o-rings if their even the slightest question on it's durability. So far the Rage family of 2 and 3 Bladed broadheads have worked for me and I will continue to use and vouch for their performance as long as they continue to perform for me. Good luck the season with whichever broadhead you choose to dance with.
