11yr olds FIRST BOWKILL

Stratton has been shooting his bow all season every day and begging to hunt. He is shooting an old PSE bandit that I have had for 10yrs. We are waiting on one of the new Mathews youth bows that are coming out. We looked at one and they are an awesome new little bow. Stratton shoots bare bow.(fingers with a tab no sight) I have put a sight, he has a release and everyting, he just always wants to go back shooting bare bow. He can group 6 arrows withing 6" at 2oyds consistantly. (he can shoot bare bow waaaaay better than I can!) He shot at night in the moonlight all week getting ready.

We went to Bastrop Friday night to let him try to shoot a hog. He wanted to spot and stalk, he didnt want sit in a stand. We jumped in the bull pen where about 100 head of wild young bulls kept us amused all night long. At nine o'clock we saw the young bulls trying there best to chase a herd of hogs away from coming in to the protein creep feeder. Stratton and I began to belly crawl up to get a shot. We got within range and got to our knees. Everyting looked good and Stratton picked out a good sized sow. I watched with my binoculars as he shot. He shot and I hear the "CRACK" and squeal only to see his arrow hit the sow just above the knuckle in the front foreleg. She along with the herd were smoking it getting outta dodge. We sat up my tent blind for refuge fromthe cold about 40yd away so that we would have a place to hang out awaiting the next group. We listened to cows, bulls and coyotes all night long. Around 11pm another group came in. We let them get in feeding and we tried to get into position. As we were on our bellies crawling up, a good sized sow smelled a rat and came over to see what the heck we were. Stratton and I are laying face down as this sow walks up to within 10 FEET of us! As we are looking out of the top of our heads I hear a quiet little giggle coming from Stratton. I think it was one of those nervous giggles, not a funny haha giggle He growled and grunted and most of the herd took off. About half had gone to another feeder to our left. I told Stratton to get up on his knees and get ready. He got ready and just as I thought, the split group from the other feeder were coming and gonna come right by us. He drew as a couple of 100 pounders came by. As on que, they saw us and stopped. Stratton released and made a near perfect shot. Only problem was, when he released the hog had already begun to take of causing his arrow to hit back from the lungs just a couple of inches. The shot was good and low, just under back of the lungs. We watched as they took off across the field. I could tell that she was going to go down. We sat back into the blind on what was a relitively slow night. (We never saw a hog near 150lbs) At 2am another group came in. Statton told me: this ones going down! This group only had about 10 hogs and only one was over 100 lbs and she was on the opposite side of the creep feeder. We were in position and had a bunch of opportunities, however the young bulls had come in to harrass the hogs. We had to wait about 10 minutes before one hog seperated himself from all the other hogs and had no young bulls in the vacinity behind him. I told him, take that one. He drew and released: I watched the lasernock smoke right throught the chili hole and stick into the wood leg of the feeder. He almost pinned the hog to the feeder! They all took off and Stratton's hog only made it 20yds before did his best Dale Earnhart Jr. imitation of the last lap a Talledega. He spun and came to grinding halt! Statton jumped up and yelled YES! and gave me a big high five! Before I could say anything, he ran over and began draggin the hog back. We Sat there in pop up till the moon was wanning and we decided to pull the truck up and sleep in the back in our bedrolls. I didnt sleep worth a dang in the bed of the truck and I awoke to hearing something around 3:30. There were a few hogs back up at the feeder and we were only parked 50yds away behind the other feeder. I grabbed my new Elite Synergy bow that I just decked out and decided to give its first taste of blood. I took a 30yd shot and drilled a 120 lb porker for the pit! I watched as the hog wend over the hill and began to fall. At dawn I got Stratton up and we drove over the hill and found my hog. She was a butterball sow. About 300yds away, we found only the remnints of Stratton's first hog that the coyotes had dined on. We loaded both hogs and I got some pics of Stratton and his first bowkill. All in all, this will be a night that I will remember forever.

Awesome. My first bowkill was a hog when I was 13.

When are you going to post up about your new bow? You teased us about it before the big crash.
