    Large Diameter Tree- Stand Options

Does anyone have experience in setting a stand up in a very large oak tree? I'm guessing at least 6' in diameter.

I have an unbelievable location in Northeast Texas where some very large bucks have been seen gathering to eat white oak acorns. However, the trees are in an open pasture, about 50 yards from any cover for a ground blind, and both are extremely large. I'd love to get a stand in one of these, but it can't be permanent.

Has anyone had a similar experience they could share with me?

I put one about 25' up in a red oak with roughly a 30" dia. I used a summit swift stix 17' ladder with another 10' of home made ladder. I will never do it again btw.

Yep. That's how I did it. Used the yellow industrial straps that are 3-4" wide or so.

I just put a stand in a large oak myself. I used a leaning stand with long straps. It's not easy getting the strap AROUND the tree so you may have to bring a ladder to get the strap around.

Ground blind is out of the question since it would stick out like a sore thumb. The trees are in a hay meadow.

Extra long ratchet strap? Is this for the steps? I was thinking of trying this with my ameristep rapid rails. The stand I believe I can get onto the first set of limbs that split and shoot up.

                    Yeah, Simek I'm still around.

How about a gametamer with some ladder sticks or screw in steps

I had to take a second look to confirm the poster!

I hope that you are doing well.

Is a tripod nestled up against the tree out of the question?

Part-Timer, I haven't really thought about it, but I guess a tall tripod would work in that situation. I would have the silhouette definitely covered, but what about in front? Has anyone come up with a shoot through mesh for tripods?

If it's a chain-on treestand why not just make the chain longer?
