        I think it's a little high for 40 minutes, I had to call plumber on a Satuday, he spent 3.5 hours snaking our sewer lines pulling all sorts of roots out and he charged me $400. I live in smaller town and know the guy, he's local but he's better and cheaper IMO than some of the big guys out there.

            I am a plumbing contractor in Austin, we don't do service calls but that seems about right to me. He should have given you an itemized statement though.

              Most plumbers I know charge $100 just for service call before they do any work. Should have gone and rented you a bigger snake for $40.

                Large companies will be $2-300 due to massive overhead. Small companies that do not have $5000,000 in yellow page ads etc will be around $100.
