I have noticed these birds running around some of my tanks , and identified them as a King Rail. I dont know much about them besides I found them under ducks on TPWD.com and that there is a season on them.

us Cajuns eat everything
Gallinule and rails .... (copy/paste as I share the same opinion as below)
A gallinule is basically a smaller form of a coot. Although they taste nothing of the same. Gallinule are probably better than duck. Not as much meat but definately worth a box of xperts. Note it does not say you must shoot them with steel either. Unless there has been some recent change. If the teal season sucks I will dedicate a few trips to blasting some over the hydrilla mats. You need to put a formula down to kill em. Sometimes they hold like quail in water hyacinth.
Rails are basically a quail/egret morfed into one. These are the little guys making all that racket when you are fishing the marsh near the coast. They love to run and hide. Very difficult to shoot b/c they never fly. I shoot them on low tide sometimes when they run across the flats. Great eating but even less meat than the gallinule. Eat the legs on both species. They are basically white meat. Do not compare them to that liver tasting coot either. Good luck blasting those noisy creatures this season.
