I also wouldnt suggest using motor oil. It can cause anything from skin irritation to vomiting if the dog licks its self and kidney and liver damage. There are too many safe ways to get rid of the mange to take a chance in using this old time "remedy"

I agree, plus you have to tie or cage the animal away from all people and improvements (buildings, sidewalks, etc.) until the oil wears off.
I know that its not a home remedy, but I had very good luck with a product called Revolution when my heeler got the mange (scabes) a couple of years back.
I don't know of any natural/home remedy that works and I studied it pretty hard.
Mix sulfur and oil of some type, be it motor oil or just mineral oil in to a paste and apply it to the dog 2 to 3 times a week, should start clearing up pretty quick, We've used this for years but there are two types of mange common in Texas and this only works on one. If you can't see it clearing up in a couple weeks take em to the vet. The other type of mange can actually spread to humans. Found this out from the vet a few years back.
