    PowerStroke Transmission

Didn't want to steal another thread!!

I have a 99 Ford with a 7.3 PS w/210K miles on it, I,m having a rattling noise while its in 1st and 2nd gear. I was told it's the Torque Converter.

I have talked to two shops, one said that it was a known problem w/the 99s and it won't hurt anything if I left it he said it's just annoying but if I wanted to get it fixed it would be $900.00. The other (our local Ford House) told me that they didn't know of a problem w/them and I'd need to bring it in and most likely have it opened up to see what the problem is.

Okay reason for post, I need a TBH transmission person to tell me #1 what will it hurt if I leave it? #2 Is that a good price for the replacement of the TC and completely servicing the transmission. #3 What kind of mileage can I expect to get out of the engine and tranny if I do regular maintenance???

Only part of that I can answer is YES it was a known problem...... but most went out around 90K-110K. If you bought it used I bet it has already been through one.

The transmission shop said don't worry about it instead of trying to sell you something.

The dealership says "Pay this much to find out whats wrong".
I know who I would trust.

Check to see if the torque converter bolts are tight. Might be the problem. Seen it before.

Get it changed. I changed mine out this year. It is also a 99 model. No need to let it go out and trash the transmission. It cost me about a grand.
