10 Yrs of Culling Spikes at Shaws Bend

I gave up on our Shaws Bend hunting spot when a certain relative continues to do crazee stuff like getting his 4 wheeler with dogs going on his property to crank his chain saw up to clear a trail on the opening day of bowseason a couple of years ago. That's a whole nuther story, but for the last 10 years or so we have been religiously killing every spike that was not 1.5 yrs old. We're finally seeing some results. Granted this isn't a South Texas or a protein feed or a high fence scenario but even still, the 13" rule is starting to have a little effect on our overhunted family land.

That said, I saw a quartet of bucks in mid July of 2002 at Shaws Bend that beat these boyz. I think that they were 2 sets of twins...... a pair of 10 pointers and a pair of 8 pointers.

Anywho, this is our "B" hunting land. Our "A" hunting land in Fayette County is getting us stirred up as the season opener approaches.

Muldoon is across the river from where we are and a long way from Fayetteville, I think.

If I remember correctly Muldoon is halfway between Weimar and LaGrange on FM 155, right?

We're just about 8 miles from Joes Restaurant, Sportsbar on the square in Fayetteville, LOL. Come on into Lick-Skillet Weekend and get crazee with us October 16-17th.

13 " is not really an intense management rule, but is helps !!! Those orginal 6 counties that TPWD started with several years ago are now producing, free range 120-140 on a regular basis !!!!
