    anybody goin to the Shiner picnic?

    We try to go every year. (if I dont have to work) Its this weekend. they usually have some pretty good bands. good food and COLD Shiner Bock!

    Ah man, I'd like to. Still have some of my grandfather's cousins there, descendants of those who used to partly own the Spoetzl Brewery and part of the Shiner Hobo Band. Looks like they'll be there: http://www.shinerhoboband.com/schedule.html

      Yep, the Hobo band will be there. They usually play all the picnics around there. My folks are close friends with a couple of guys in the band.

        I'm dying knowing it will go on without me, as we are stranded in Calgary, Alberta!

            I grew up in Yoakum and my Grandma lived across the street from the VFW hall in Shiner. The Shiner church picnic was a staple. I still remember picking up beer cans for money when I was little and making some empty cans in the beer garden in my later years. I can still taste the fried chicken. Dang this is making me home sick.

              yep! fried chicken, picnic stew, sausage, green beans, potatoes... good stuff!
