I went yesterday afternoon to get 2 new tires put on the front of my truck and then align the front end. The place that does our work vehicles was completely booked yesterday afternoon. The other recommended place in town had 3 inline so I go to a place I passed driving through town. They said sure we can do it right now. They pull it up on the rack and I go to the waiting room. I hadn't been in the waiting room more than 10 minutes when the tech comes in and says I can't align it. You need new tie-rod ends, upper and lower ball joints and a pitman arm before he can align it. I said there was no way cause i just put one new tie rod end on and a new pitman arm in April and still had the reciept from when I bought them at Orielly's. Mechanic said if you have the recipet we will just but the parts at Orielly's so we can use the warranty from the parts you already bought.
I already have my doubts about what he is saying but agree to let them give me a quote. MEchanic gives secretary a sheet of paper and she starts putting it into the computer then she comes over to me and asks me to fill out the top with my contact info. I look it over and listed underneath the mechanics "recommendations" It says "Also try to sell new fuel filter and serpantine belt" Almost got up and left then but curiousity got the better of me and wanted to see the quote then.
Well and HOUR later the lady gives me the quote and its $1331.73! The listed parts price they were apparently going to Buy from Orielly's were 2 times what I had paid for them. Tie rods were $32 when I bought them and thier quote quoted them at $82 a piece. $95 for a serpentine belt and $80 for a fuel filter. I told the guy to get my truck off the rack and that he would never do an ounce of work on any vehicle of mine. This same business owns a towing service and tows for the county alot and I can only imagine what thier storage and towing fees run! Business name and address listed below:

It was almost 5 when I got there. Mechnic said sure I'll take a look at it. He puts it on the rack and looks it over then asks me out into the shop. At the time I had yet to tell them I had been somewhere else already. He said the front end on the truck was tight but I had just a hair line amount of movement in the upper ball joint on the passenger side. Said he could align the front end and then after I get the upper ball joint replaced bring it back and he double check it to see if it changed anything. So a supposed $1337 job wound up costing me $58 for the alignment and $44 for the upper ball joint and I am good to go. Don't you just love thieves who disguise themselves as businessmen?
