    Please Help, Possible Punching Problem

I have had a SEVERE case of target panic before, where I couldn't even move my pin near the target with my finger on the target. Right now, I have no problem moving my pin on the target and keeping it there, (similar to a rifle). However, when I shoot very closely (ten yards) I can sometimes achieve a surprise release by just slowly squeezing the release, and it really does scare me! It's always accurate, but I am not able to do it from further distances. I can put arrows in a three inch circle from thirty yards, but I don't achieve the same "surprise" release that I always hear people talking about. Is this bad??? I still feel confident in my shooting, I am just wondering if I need to learn to do the same thing from further distances. Thanks!!

the more i think about an answer the more i want to punch my own trigger

there are guys on here that can help you, I find that if I'm making kill shots I'll work on accuracy but my ability to drop them consistently in the 10 ring is not important. a few inch moa with my bow is good enough, 8-9 ring stuff I shoot a bow to kill an animal a 10 to me is a vital shot.

I in no way have the personality to try and perfect 10 ring. I'd get so analytical that my accuracy would get worse.

sounds like you are gaining experience and confidence in your longer shots. As long as you are not just jerking the crap out of it its ok to anticipate the release a little as long as you are hitting where you want to. Dont stress about it, that will only make it worse.

Move up to a point blank range from the target, draw, anchor and aim, then close your eyes and concentrate on the squeeze of the release or work on back tension to set it off to get the feel of the "suprise" release and do this until you fell comfortable with your mechanics and then back up to 10 yards and try to do the same thing, except with your eyes open. If you start to anticipate the release go back to the closed eyes up close practice. It is almost a given that if you continue to anticipate the release you will end up with a full blown case of target panic and that is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. When you anticipate the release, one of these times you will hold low or off target and anticipate moving into the bull, but what happens is the little jerk sets in to bring the pin and arrow into the center of the target and you pop or punch the release and that my friend is the onset of target panic and it will only get worse if you do not correct it now. I have ben there and done that for way to many years and I am just now getting control of the TP and it has been years of a lot of BT releases, blank bale shooting and everything under the sun. it is not fun to have.

The only sure fire way to get past target panic is to get a long bow and shoot purely instinctive
