covering up scent your self !?

when i used to live and hunt in Georgia we whoud keep are hunting gear in a plastic tub and cover it with pine needels and twigs and pine cones for weeks leading up to hunting season and just keep it in there all season when not in use. I myself believe this was a great method.

Well now that i live in Tx and hunt no wear near pines trees im woundering what i can use to smell like my enviroment when in the feild ? im guessing mesquite bark ?? dont really think that the mesquite will penatrate like pine scent does

I uses to go the cover scent route...now I am all about scent free....here is what I did
Get you a cheap cooking pot or microwavable bowl and some bottled drinking water......go find native plants in your hunting area....with clean hands...get several handfuls of leaves, bark, grass.......make your on little soup....heat for about 5 minutes till the water starts to boil......let it cool...pour into a big spray bottle....your set....cedar goes a long, long way!

I question this method, but deer always snort at me no matter what. I did just as you did but with cedar limbs in the plastic container, they still seemed to smell me no matter, I wondered if the cedar was too strong because I had fresh cuts in the branches?????

I do the same thing to make cedar cover scent, seems to work well. I keep my clothes in rubbermaid container with cedar branches as well.

Cedar works fine in the hill country, maybe not so well down in the valley. The trick is to be as natural to the area hunted as possible. I do cut some cedar limbs and thrown them in a plastic tub with my hunting clothes.
