    ? For you Workout Gurus

Legdogs thread made me remember a ? I wanted to ask all you workout gurus.

I used to be BIG into working out and running - The real world has kicked me into LOW gear when it comes to my physical fitness. I was 170-175 and in really good shape throughout college, but am now to about 200lbs and get winded while filling feeders. It is time to get back into shape again. I don't want to spend money on staying is shape (in other words no Gym Memberships ,or $200 dvd sets).

Is there a program out there that I can follow (online maybe), that is based around at home DIY workouts using your bodyweight only for the most part?
The links Legdog may have what I am looking for, but I would like something with a schedule or structure to it. Not just a bunch of excersizes to pick from each day. I will run if needed, but do todays modern workout programs give you all the cardio you need or do you still need to run along with doing the workouts?

    Any help would be appreciated!

sounds like crossfit.com is going to be your ticket. Many of there moves involve weights though. Improvise

get a big ball and the DVD that comes with it, $25 bucks @ Academy.
push ups, pull ups, squats and corework can all be easily done at home watching oprah..

I have biked, ran, swam and kayaked tens of thousands of miles, so I think I can say this.

there is no substitute for running.

I hear what your sayin, my wife and I bought p90x, but started a diet that we got off line first and it wasnt that bad (not just rabbit food) and the wife actually lost 12 pounds in the first 2 weeks. as far as the workout part we bought just the dvds off ebay for $52 and got the other info and workout schedules off line, thats how we kept our cost down.

You have to find what works for you and keeps you on a consistent path.

For me, I have a training partner that meets with me 4-5 days per week in the wee hours. There is no way in hell I'd do this stuff without a partner to keep me honest (and from hitting the snooze button).

I have invested in a small amount of equipment (olympic bumper plates, pull up bar, gymnastic rings, kettlebells, plyo stands, medicine ball, etc) and follow (with some modifications) the goings on at P3 Crossfit Houston (Thanks Mary Bone).

The bodyrock web site is a daily source for mostly equipment free routines and looks very promising.

Crossfit is a bit advanced for most to just jump in, but I'm in a groove now. It seems to fit a fairly small percentage of the exercise population.

I also like P90X but only from what I hear. I don't have personal experience with that one... just numerous friends (mostly TBH'ers) with great results.

            good luck

This is the key. Most people will workout at home for awhile and then fall off. And chances are if you aren't willing to spend money on it you won't stick with it. This is not the rule but there are few exceptions to it. Working out is something you have to do CONSISTENTLY and INTENSELY or you won't see any results. Good luck and stay with something

Legdog is right, have someone you are accountable to and they to you. I was much worse and in February I decdied to start doing Crossfit (www.crossfitwesthoustonc.com) and have sense dropped 40lbs and feeling great. There are many things you can do with just body weight alone or even getting some inexpensive kettlebells/dumbbells etc. PM me your email and I can forward you some good workouts that I use when I am at the ranch or traveling. Believe me you will be gassed.... good luck and get to it!!

While my experience is a small fraction of the miles logged by Bily Lovec, I have found this to be true for me as well. Nothing works on flab like running...at least for me.

Need to hit the track/trails myself.

Looks like my freind Splitarrow here is going to ship me his P90x videos to use. I am going to start running right now so hopefully by the time I get them in the mail I won't litterally die during my first workout! THANKS ROB!

if you browse the internet for p90x nutrition plan and p90xrecipes, you can find some good info. That what the wife and I did and we got some gooduns'. the diet was the hardest thing for me to stick with or should I say the portions but I'm getting used to it now. It's amazing how much I would actually sit down and eat at one time!!

                        Hey Codie,

I ws in the same boat as you early in the summer. 10 years behind a desk and I was 260 plus 6'2 and winded tying my shoes. Layed off.....new job(LOT less Stress) and now I can exercise a bit more.

In the past 3 months I have learned my get up and go is gonna come from what I eat. When I eat bad I dont wanna do it an vice versa.....

Oh and I realized how much I LOVE to go run again....avg 15 miles a week right noiw.

                        Good Luck!

I've never tried it, but a friend of mine wants to try this 12 minute workout. It would be free and very time friendly, but it sounds tough!
