That is the same thing that happened on the lease I was on. Stretch a few strands of barbwire, similar to fencing a feeder off. Should not take much to deter them

The pipeline company might not like you putting logs in the ROW

If you get too aggressive you might find yourself on the outside looking in!

Russ Now is your time to get your fall planting figured out. Who ever is laying that line is going to come back and reseed with natives if you can get out there right after they do it you've got a cleared ROW and food plot. Assuming its where you want it. Just think of it as a permanent plot that you dont have to mow or maintain. They wouldn't want you tilling but the ground is going to be broken up. I wouldnt do logs either, they are going to aerial inspect that line, if its a transmission line, and the logs wont do anything. Even if you put up a fence, its coming down if they have a repair issue, and it probably wont get replaced becasue you have no legal right because you are not the landowner.

I am going to wait to hear from my Campbell rep to see what my options are and giving the trespassers/thieves/poachers easy access is not one of them...

Upon further review....except for the 3-400 yards of fence I will probably have to put up to keep the thieves off, this new pipeline is opening up new areas of the lease that haven't seen the light of day in years. I may not have time this year to put in fall foodplots, but there will be long stretches of clear shooting. I talked to some of the pipeline guys this afternoon and their timetable is five weeks from beginning to end and they have already worked eight days. So it looks like they will be thru before bow season starts. I can't wait to start stringing corn. If anybody needs some free oak firewood I believe I can fix you up- they are putting some trees on the ground!

I wouldn't mind some firewood, and certainly wouldni't mind helping you string fence. I'm on a 7 and 7 schedule so let me know when you plan on fencing and hopefully I'll be off. I live in Nac and my lease is in Douglass. Not sure where your place is but can't be too far from here.

They will be reseeding after the finish the line. The contractor is going to use a seed that will come up pretty quick so he can get final payment for soil stabilization. All that fresh green grass is going to provide some excellent food plots for the deer. As for dragging up the logs I agree that is a good idea but dont be surprised if they are removed by the gas company so they can drive the right-of-way and inspect the ditchline for sinking and leak detection.

buffalorider, give it a week or two for them to finish the clearing and you can cut all you want. I live almost half way between Woden and Etoile on FM226 and my lease is less than a mile past my house. If you ever get out this way stop by the house- I am easy to find but in a bad spot on the road. I have the only A&M flag flying on a flag pole on the road.

Things to remember on a pipeline right-of-way...

If you do any plowing, fence building anything on the right-of-way itself, CALL IN A ONE CALL TO HAVE THE LINE LOCATED! Call 811 from any phone and they will mark the exact location of the pipeline and the depth! And yes, it's free... I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!

Whatever timber you don't get will be burned and buried on the r.o.w. Get all you want and invite folks to get some as well!

Stands, Feeders, Feeder pens... If they're placed on the r.o.w. and any maintenance is needed to be done on the pipeline itself, guess what... If you're lucky, they "MIGHT" set your stuff to the edge of the r-o-w and not damage it too bad.

Keep tabs on your hunting camp. May not hurt to set up a few trail cameras around camp just in case something comes up missing. Get the pipeline contractor's company name and the spreadman's phone number. He'll be the one running the job. If anything comes up missing, hopefully you'll catch the culprit on the camera and get an identification from the spreadman to the police. I'm not trying to give pipeliners a bad name, I am one!

Just guessing, It's probably XTO or TGG&T's pipeline. There is A LOT of work going on in that area and a lot more to come... so get ready! They're hitting the western edge of the Haynesville Shale play.

Good luck, and hopefully nothing comes up missing while they're working on it or any other folks out "sniffing around".

I'm not a pipeline contractor, I do industrial radiography on the pipeline welds before they're put into service to check for any defects in welding. If you see any pickup trucks w/ a big white camper on the back (it's a darkroom), that's x-ray and It's probably one of our trucks. If you're out there and they are x-raying the welds, stay back! It'll make your kids be born naked!

Ritter Construction out of Carthage, I believe, is doing the construction and I believe it is El Paso Gas that will own the pipeline. The camp is down by my house. I am waiting from my Campbell rep to give me direction on what I will be able to do. This is still in the early stage so I will just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
