    Hunters for the hungry.

Nearly 13% of all Texas households and 32% of all Texas children under age 12 suffer from malnutrition or outright hunger. During the 2007-2008, Texas hunters donated over 178,000 pounds of meat to shelters and food pantries across the state of Texas in the fight against hunger.

    Does anyone donate their meat?

I bet if we could kill every hog they would all be overweight within a month.

When I lived and hunted in Virginia we donated tons of meat! The program was free up there, just drop them off and done. The last time I checked here you had to pay 1/2 the processing fee. Is that still the case? And I also think I heard they will not accept pigs?

Yes there is still a fee. I think pigs are accepted in some places but they have to be alive. Doesn't make much since, if I was starving I would eat pig meat. I would think its just as safe as deer meat.

$30 to DONATE meat? I'm all for helping people out but if you have to pay $30 per animal that could get more expensive than a typical charity case!

The small donation fee covers the processors involved in the program's fee. Who would run a business for free?

The TAHC has really made it difficult to donate wild hog.

CAN I DONATE HOGS, GEESE, DUCKS, FISH, ETC.?

Due to the state and federal requirements for processing other animals, venison is the only standard product accepted by all participating processors. Wild hogs are especially challenging. Presently, to be donated, wild hogs must be trapped live and transported to an approved facility where the animals can be inspected prior to slaughter.
Hunters for the Hungry is a great program, but, in my opinion, could use some improvements.

Hunters Harvest is another great program and there are some processors that provide the processing free of charge:

I didn't say they would, just saying out of all the "feed the needy" that sounds just as expensive plus the work of gutting it, etc. You would think the organization would help the processors out.

Hmmm...If I am a starving person I would cook and eat most anything making sure to COOK it CORRECTLY!!! I think that is the real problem.

I participate in donation programs. Pay the fee, obtain the tax form, and report the fair value of the donation. The tax deduction should offset most, if not all of the donation fee. If you are able to do this it is a wash to you financially and you are helping at the same time.

We given alot of ours away in the past. We're all for helping those in need. Are we trying to put something together for Thanksgiving? Christmas?

Well if they would have sold permits to help solve the hog problem in George Bush park in Houston they could have had a bigger donation.
But they decided on 4 bow hunters only.
