A co-worker came to me today telling me that her oldest son is interested in bow hunting. His dad is not a hunter but has shot his grandfathers bow. I wish I had the time to help this kid out in getting started but dont have the time right now. Are there any classes on the west side of Houston to help kids learn how to shoot and the ins and outs of bow hunting?

I've read this and tried to come up with a tactful response, probably should just keep my mouth shut, but can't. I didn't play soccer, never really cared for the game, but my son showed interest, so guess what, I learned the game because it was an opportunity to spend time with one of my boys. Maybe Dad should step up and get involved in his child's life. Kudos to you for stepping up, wish I was closer.
It is not my place to judge, don't know the Dad or circumstances, just seems odd to me?

He was just asking for help. He never said that the dad wasnt willing to get involved, Dad is the one that asked him for help. If he wasnt a good father he would have ignored the kids interest in bowhunting. Dad isnt a hunter and doesnt know about bows or hunting, which is why he's asking for help.

Dad needs to get into it and him and the kid will be hooked. Get some cheep bows and shoot a little, they will learn together and end up having a blast. When they decide that they love it they can get better equipment. If the kid sees dad having fun he will want to join in.
Dad dont have to be a hunter, just an archer.

Thanks for the info. Yes it is the mother who asked me but the dad is very much involved in the childs life. Maybe once he sees his kid wants to do this maybe he will pick it up too. There is nothing wrong with the dad, he just did not grow up in a hunting environment like the mother did. Its your classical City boy meets Country girl situation.

I'd offer to help but I am also too far away.
