    Computer Guys HELP

I have a Security alert that showed up on my computer. I know that it is one of the alerts that is trying to sell software. I ran McAfee and it did not get rid of it.

Yesterday my computer kept redirecting on the internet and I picked this up there. How Do I get rid of it? Keep in mind I am an old construction worker so instructions are helpfull.

Reboot the laptop - during system startup, pre Windows logo load, hit your F8 key several times. The PC will reboot into a menu, select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING.

You may be able to restore to a previous point, pre-MALWARE outbreak, using the SYSTEM RESTORE feature. This menu will pop up asking you if this is what you want to do. Simply select no and let the system come up.....showing a calendar of restore points. This will only work if your PC has been set up with SYSTEM RESTORE turned on.

Go way back through your calendar listing restore points and select one previous to your recent MALWARE outbreak.

This at times corrects the problem without running 3rd party software. You will not lose recent data (photos, files, email etc).

^this is good advice, but many malware baddies know to hide themselves away from system restore tactics. Another approach is to run Malwarebytes, Spybot, and AVG or Avast all in Safe mode. Restart, repeat, probably 2 or 3 times. Then run a registry cleaner across it. The thread linked above also has good advice.

And as said above, Safe Mode is accessed by pressing F8 as the computer boots up, then selecting "SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING". I usually just tap the key repeatedly as the machine powers up, its a lot easier than trying to time it.

To get the ones that like to hide , "TURN SYSTEM RESTORE OFF BEFORE YOU ENTER SAFE MODE"

MalwareBytes won't kill this one. You need to Google Hitman Pro 3.5. It will kill it.

Well so far so good. I got into safe mode downloaded malwarebytes and ran it. It hit 35 files. I am just now bringing the computer backup and it looks good for right now. Thanks for the help

Apparently McAfee did not do what it is suppose to.

Go immediately and do a few Google searches. I would be very surprised if Malwarebytes killed it. If your searches are still being redirected you still have it. I've already been there, done that. Wife picked this up from Facebook and Hitman Pro 3.5 is the only thing that killed it.

So what else is new? Not a big fan of Trend, Norton or McAfee.

I kept getting a Fakewarn trojan and it wouldn't let me run any cleaning programs or MSN. I ended up running avast and it ran in "DOS" and got it. It said it was a operating system trojan. Had it get me a second time and I knew what to do. I would like to shoot the people responsible for viruses in the FACE!!!!!
